Keyword seo have I been getting it wrong?

It's not my niche payday loans but I was looking at video about Google and words on your site - the video basically said Google looks at individual words.

Now if I was putting up a payday loan site I would put the keywords in like this


top ten payday loans, paydayloans, payday loans uk, pay day loan, payday loan lenders

But the site at the top of google did it like this

top, 10, payday, loans, uk, compare, best, pay, day, loan, lenders

And as you can see its individual words - so I am going to play with some of my site to check if this is the way to go

    If you are referring to the keyword tag, Google does not use this as a ranking factor so I wouldn’t waste time putting words in a meta tag like that. Having the words on the page, in the title, URL and meta description and also as file names for images (and alt attributes if you can swing it) is fine.

    If they are ranking in Payday Loans, you can be damn sure its not their keyword tags thats doing it.
