Targeting the same keyword in many pages. is it wise?

Hey people I'm new here, this is my first post and I have a newbie question.
Let's say I have a niche site about cell phones and the main keyword I'd like to rank for is "iphone reviews", in addition to that every page on my site is targeting a different long-tail keyword, but as for the main keyword, what would be the wisest thing to do?

a) Target the main keyword in only one page on the site (e.g. the home page)
or
b) Target the main keyword in many pages on the site

My intuition tells me to choose option b. but if I target the same keyword in many pages do they not compete with each other for that keyword? So how will I have control over what page search engines will choose to display when people search for "iphone reviews"?

General rule is main keywords main page, 5-10

then each other page target variants 5-10 each.
