Why Am I Getting Google Slapped?

I launched my new site a few weeks ago: PetHostr.com

All was going well, until around the 25th of July, when traffic simply dropped like a rock (screenshots attached)

Any ideas why this might be happening? How can I find out what I am getting google slapped for? (a tool which can indicate this would be awesome)

many thanks for any advice!!

    What links did you build?
    How did you build them?
Is your onsite content OK - show samples maybe.

Once you have answered to those questions it's much easier to move on and discover why you have lost your traffic.

I've bold the obvious answer. Search engine don't work on a build and win basis. You might have got a boost in rankings early on for freshness. That has now gone, so its time to move toward SEO to improve your rankings.

Other than commenting in some (related) blogs, no backlinking has been done.

Content is mostly in the form: Broadlaw Gundogs Boarding Kennels, Cattery, Bigger | PetHostr
(there are around 16k of these urls)

And then also there's our blog: pethostr.com/blog which is a pretty standard blog with lots (around 300) posts - every other day, a new post is made.

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks a lot guys, really helpful (how do I 'thank' someone on here?!)

Does anyone use backlink-management software? I mean I'd like to do something like link exchanges but you never know when the other party simply removes your link (some automated notification of this would be awesome) ...

Just an update guys, looks like the SE traffic (but not the SE queries under google analytics > traffic sources > SEO > Search Queries, quite strange) is looking on the better again.

Think some solid onpage SEO is needed though, but certainly the blog is helping!

      For backlinks:
Was thinking of a 'mention exchange' technique (probably not anything new hehe) : contact some pet bloggers in our niche (pet blog) and ask about a 'mention exchange' : we mention (+link) to you in our blog post and would love it if you could return the favor.

Has anyone tried this with any success?

      Thanks,
      G

Using software can tarnish your reputation in the SERP.

If you haven't built any backlink then how where you receiving your traffic?

If it's from the search engine then it's natural to move to your position
after a google dance since you don't have any off site SEO carried out yet.
