Does submitting your RSS feed to hundreds of sites using automated software build traffic and links or is it a waste of time?

submitting it to hundreds of sites is probably a waste of time. Just submit them to top 101-5 RSS services and you should be good

Do you know of any free software for this I had been using RSS Submitter Pro but that was a free 30 day trial and I'm not sure it's worth the investment.

No I don't know any free ones, I use Ultimate Demon for all automated submissions.
But you can do it manually or ask somebody on fiverr to do it.

Generally people do RSS feed submission to index their website's blog pages etc. So no special benefit for SEO.

I'd say there is still some SEO benefit from doing these submissions. And another big benefit is that you might get some visitors if your articles are interesting enough.

Direct visitors isn't really an SEO benefit. But it is a benefit The SEO benefit comes from either having your new content indexed faster, or having content that has your links built on it indexed faster.

Well yeah that's what I said lol. I was saying that having more visitors is just another benefit of submitting to RSS
