Robots Disallow instead of Nofollow?

Before you think "Geez, what a stupid guy!", let me explain the rather silly title.

About 2 months ago, I started a general forum. Big waste of time. About a week ago, I turned that into a SEO/SMM/Affiliate forum. Slightly better niched than "everything".. Anyways, one of my "extra" things which I'm trying to stand out with, is to let active members share a referral link, for whatever they want.

I wanted all links in that specific category only to be nofollow, since I'm running with dofollow signatures. However, that doesn't seem to be possible according to the support forum of the forum software. Instead I was considering robots disallow. It should keep the crawlers out, but what about the links? Would they just go in anyway, not caring about the content but head for any links?

So, since nofollow isn't an option (unless some PHP guy knows how to do it), could it work disallowing the said category from crawlers?

Thanks in advance,
Jonas.
