Meta Titles "|" vs Descriptive

I've been taught using KWs in a meta title separated with the "|" symbol is the best way to help with rankings. Is this really the best practice to use even though it looks less professional than a more descriptive title? Ex: Plumber | Clogged Drains | Sink Repair" vs "Plumber in Melbourne Specializing In Clogged Drains"?

    IMHO, you'll find people who like each version for different reasons. Personally, I much prefer the natural version and use that style of page title for my homepage/articles - works great for me.

    You can do both. Use a real call to action with the keyword near the front. It will take some tweaking due to space limitations but it can be done.

    I generally use title without "|" sign, what I know about this sign is that when you use it in your title like "Plumber | Clogged Drains | Sink Repair", then you're telling search engine that you want to rank your webpage for 3 keywords only..

    1. Plumber
    2. Clogged Drains
    3. Sink Repair

    "|" is a meaningless symbol. Just like an underline_. Means nothing. If you must use a separator, use a dash "-" a comma "," or even "&". As for putting the website
    domain in the title, like domain.com, you should use ":" after the domain.

    On specific article pages, your title should not be a mish mash of keywords that
    are really honed for the main index page. It should be roughly the same title
    as the article. No more, no less. One more reason to hone your article titles
    using h1. If your h1 is how to wash dishes, your title should be how to wash dishes.
    Not:
    Dishwashing| in the sink | dishes | glasses | wine glasses | long stem
    or other such rot. No human or search engine is going to know what your page
    is really about. Just: how to wash long stem wine glasses.
