.org Exact Match Domain versus .com Partial Match

For the purpose of this thread lets assume that both an exact match domain and a partial match domain both give a little boost in rankings vs a domain with no keywords in it (all other things being equal). So what do you think is better, an exact match .org name or a partial match .com name. There are studies out there showing that .com exact match's do better than .org exact matches, by I am wondering how a partial .com would do against an exact match .org. Does anyone know, has come across this, or done some testing?

To be honest, I'm not all that stoked on EMD right now - I'd much rather see an aged domain used that you snag off of GoDaddy auctions, or some kind of similar service; just make sure it makes sense for the niche you're using it on, and do you research so you're not trying to rank a dud!

It really depends on whether you are talking about an affiliate/smaller type of site or whether you want to try and build a real business/brand with the site. If it's the former, go with the .org exact match, it it's the latter, go with a domain where you can get the .com

I'm talking about pure SEO here. And comparing a like site for a like site all other things being equal. So comparing an affiliate site to an affiliate site, and a business site to a business site

  • Jpwar,

Are you talking about a .com EMD doing better than a .org EMD from a “consumer perception” standpoint or in the eyes of a search engine. If it’s the former it would be interesting to see those studies. I do think that in general the type of TLD does affect a visitors view of a site in terms of trust.

If it’s the former, Google has already said that all TLDs are created equal.

I'm talking in the eye's of search engines. No I'm not talking about comparing .com emd to a .org emd. I'm talking about comparing a .org emd to a .com partial match. There are plenty of studies showing .org emds doing worse than .com emds.

Yes, you are right..... you have to consider in this sequence..

        .com
        .net
        .org

If yo don't find .com, .net, then you can use .org as well, it is not bad....

.info would take much time to rank... these three .com, .net, .org are hot in SEO.

        I wouldn't worry too much on EMD's.

Create a site on either a new domain or aged domain, depending on your competition.

Backlinking will then get you where you want to be, best way for this is a private network, however its totally up to you which way you go from there.

What do you mean a private network for backlinking? Do you just mean to outsource it?

By the way, are blog and forum comments still useful these days for backlinks? What is the best way to get backlinks for a medical practice besides medical and local business directories? I can't be too aggressive with social media.
