Shared Hosting Vs Dedicated Hosting : Which is best for SEO?

The IP of the hosting would be most important to me...

(meaning, links from the same IP class will count for less in Google's eyes)

Let's say you have 3 different shared hosting accounts at 3 different hosting companies... chances are, they'll have 3 different IPs - if you were to link from them to a main money site, they'd count as three quality links.

Otherwise, if you're asking what helps your money site the most... if the shared hosting is fast enough, that'll do just fine - the dedicated would be major overkill for any smaller, new project.

Shared hosting may have some disadvantages in case there are lot of websites hosted on the same IP, so if other websites are abusing then the main IP will be flagged for spamming so in that case it's possible your site may effect from it too, but with dedicated hosting + Dedicated IP you'll not have a similar issue.

It won't really make much difference UNLESS....

1) The shared server is overloaded resulting in poor load times
2) The IP address (of either) is blacklisted / has poor trust scores. Most "SEO Hosts" have IPs that Google won't touch with a barge pole

A more pertinent question would be; what is the nature of your site and how busy/how large is it?

With Shared Hosting, you will get shared IP address. As you are thinking from SEO point of view then you must consider a Dedicated Server. With Dedicated server you will get a Dedicated IP. In order to get proper SEO results one must have a Dedicated IP.

IMO, I don't think good ranking is purely dependent on having a dedicated hosting. I know lots of sites on shared hosting with good to excellent SEO rankings.

You can opt any Shared/Dedicated hosting both are same for SEO benefits until you have many sites and you want to create a network of sites then you need SEO or CClass IP Hosting.

Otherwise buy shared hosting with dedicated ip and its fair enough.

There are pros and cons of different hosting types. One big difference is the price. Shared hosting is quite cheaper compared to dedicated hosting but you have to compromise with the speed, and reliability of the other hosted sites. From SEO point of view there should not be that big difference, as it all depends upon the contents of the sites and it's reference from other sites.

Shared vs dedicated hosting has NO AFFECT what so ever on SEO or anything even remotely related.

Shared hosting = your sites & other sites on 1 server

Dedicated: physical server in a rack only used by you.

IP addresses have no affect either and the only ones who tell you they do are the so called "gurus". :rolleyes:

Most of you all using all these IP's also use CDN's such as CloudFlare...well, guess where the majority of your content is being served from....NOT the IP your site is hosted on.

I can rank with shared hosting so I guess it doesn't matter which one you pick.

Yes, there is no direct effect on SEO.. there are lots of small sites running on shared hosting.

But dedicated hosting is better/more than share hosting, you have full control here how you want to host your site.

SEO benefits = nothing, so we'll get that out of the way.

As far as the hosting, how big is the site? Most fit on shared without issue.
In between those two, you also have "semi-dedicated" (aka enterprise) hosting, and VPS.

Shared hosting can always affect your site's performance. For the SEO purpose I would suggest you the dedicated webhosting services, it has more features and benefits than shared hosting.

There's no such seo benefit for hosting between shared or dedicated except for the performance of the sites.

With 3 Gb bandwidth usage and around 1500-2000 visitors per day, a good shared hosting works fine.

Hosting is more of a business and more so, security of said business choice. Hosting "can" have an impact on page loadspeed. Which is a "determining" SEO factor, which means it only comes into play when all things are equal. Giving the obvious exception "SEO-Hosting", which has been targeted by Google many times. Hosting should generally not play a huge factor if any in your overall SEO score.

Security on the other hand, well I can secure a Dedi to the power of x10000 more then I can a shared host. Lock her down to a point where only the most dedicated and skilled could hurt me. I'm in control, that's my Rack. If it's making you enough bread, of course it's worth looking at security.

User experience would be another. If you're running a heavy ass site or getting a tonne of traffic, or even better both. Then you will want those visitors happy and surfing. Again it boils back to what monetary value each one of those visitors represents to you, and how much your willing to spend on their experience.

SEO is a lot like business,

The front doors need to work
The carpets and floors need to be clean
Servers need to man checkouts

The straighter the line the faster the sale, the better.

I used to swear by dedicated servers because you have full control, BUT if you aren't a server expert (or pay for a managed dedicated server) you will struggle to optimize the server for speed and security.

Over years of using dedicated servers I learnt a lot about servers, but I'm still not an expert. It's not a simple task to optimize MySQL etc... and if you get it wrong you'll be wasting money on an expensive solution you don't fully understand: like having a Ferrari and not understanding how to change past 2nd gear :-)

Had a server disaster a few years ago, updated to a new server that was the companies most expensive machine and used the backups to restore. The server ran like a 486 with the memory pulled! They setup a new server, same thing happened again, we couldn't fix it!

As a stop gap rented a couple of cheap Godaddy VPS servers while I looked for a new dedicated server company, and haven't had a major problem since, so never moved on (now use 3 Godaddy VPS), they work.

I care about pagespeed, it's an SEO factor, my sites tend to be faster than lots of websites running on expensive servers and using expensive CDNs like MaxCDN.

Have to say I wouldn't have seen me using low cost Godaddy VPS in 2014, costs me less than $200 a month for around 130 domains :-)

I'm using Dedicated with my Offshore seo vps myself. I think from shared, dedicated is really helpful for me to manage seo for me.
