Changing a 301 redirect to redirect to another site?

Let me explain this with an example:

I have an old domain, example.com. I am not using the domain.

So, I 301 redirect it to another site, 1.com.

A few weeks/months later I realized I made a mistake or whatever and want to change that redirect from 1.com to 2.com.

How does this work in terms of SEO and the effect of this?

I couldn't find any information regarding this. Has anyone tried this before or has any idea how the search engines look at this situation?...

Would be perceived as simply just another 301 redirect and so the backlinks from example.com that were being redirected towards 1.com would now go towards 2.com?...

I would assume the redirect would work as normal, but I just want to see if there is anything I am missing or ...

Thanks in advance.

I think it would end up as just another redirect once Google self corrects after reindexing all the URLs involved.

    Hi Satrap,

I haven't tried this thing as well, but I too feel that new 301 redirection will be normal and pass all link juice to new domain.

Thank you guys for taking time to share your opinion. Yeah, that's what I thought, but with SEO you never know. I have seen weirdest things happen in this field, so I always try to get a few other opinion to make sure I am not missing anything. Thanks again guys.

Well, thank you. Thats very nice of you. It is the first site I ever created (around 2009) without knowing a thing about SEO. But thanks to the help of people like Yukon, Mike and others on this forum, I was able to learn a lot and after a year got it to rank pretty much for all major "make money online" keywords.

But I too was kind of stupid with some not very "natural" way of building links, so, I lost some of the big rankings after penguin. But thankfully it wasn't side wide, so the site still is alive and kicking.

Anyway, thanks for your kind words.
