Social Bookmarking is Still Alive or Dead? :(

It is good for diversity. I didn't see much traffic from bookmarking except Stumbleupon.

Social bookmarking still works great, but it depends on who you are, what you're sharing and how you present your title copy.

If you do submission to high PR bookmark sites there is nothing wrong with it however if you do only bookmark as SEO strategy then it can be a problem...

Use social bookmarking as intended and you'll get better results. Instead of trying to hit 700 sites, work on crafting content that the different websites will enjoy, and try to get upvotes from users. They can drive significant traffic.

I use it regularly. In fact it plays a larger part in my overall website development planning.

While just bombing your site is probably not the smartest idea, using it to keep spiders active on other sites that link to you and is constantly getting fresh content is a great idea.

For instance, pick a social network... one that you love and know well.

If it's Twitter, do your thing but bookmark it regularly to keep the spiders coming. Do the same on a pinterest board, or facebook page. Do all three if you've got the time....

From a link building perspective, it can be used to give you control over spiders. That's a new tool in your toolbelt. Apply it where you want.

I like social pages that are regularly updated, I've had good luck with it.

EDIT IN: Account variety seems to be a crucial element with bookmarking. Repeated bookmarks from the same user/same domain really seem to diminish the effectiveness.

Social Bookmarking is still working very good and I'm getting very more traffic from there.

For me social bookmarking has been working pretty well , i am getting good results from stumbleupon and pinterest

Stumbleupon gives you some instant traffic, and pinterest pinning has helped a lot of my images to rank high in search engines thus giving me additional blast of traffic

Social Bookmarking does still work but not as well as it may have in the past. It can still be a viable way to get traffic to your site but not necessarily always the most qualified traffic. Personally I'd say to stay away from any social bookmarking tools that will automate things for you because that will be a bit of a red flag if you're too spammy with adding your links. A more natural approach to getting your pages added to social bookmarking sites is the better way to go. Just don't expect it to magically increase you rankings, conversions, etc.

Yes. It's great for link building. A little trickier for driving traffic but doable if you get featured on one of the larger sites as mentioned above.

It all just depends on how you are really doing it. Some can get by with doing it and have excellent results and the next person may do the same thing and it is a flop for them. Sort of a trial and error thing.

It offered me lot of features including compel any visitor to book mark my posts automatically through a fly in pop up. which will have social site buttons. I installed it and found no social buttons are seen. I tried many different ways and still result is bad.. I then contacted seller and seller is not even ready to reply me. Nor they refunded. I think they cheated me. They offered a refund in website but not even ready to reply. complete cheating and total hype.

My review is that this product is a SCAM or HYPE. . DO NOT BUY SOCIAL BRIBE , you will be in a risk of losing money.

I also placed a complaint in US Government's complaint websites.

Yes, but not as effective as you might think. Most likely better to spend your time else where. Social Bookmarking is kind of low end. It's not going to help for more competitive niches. Time spent other places will be more effective for you.

I am favor of bookmarking posting as they are helpful in link building but i believe that it is not really helpful in generating traffic towards ones website.

It's simple. Social bookmarking works, spam bookmarking doesn't. Bookmark to few quality websites rather than focusing on the quantity of bookmarks. As expert says "A single quality backlink is always better than scoring 100 backlinks of no use".

If you are seeking a bookmark from Reddit, then it will likely count in your favor. But a lousy link from a cheap Pligg bookmarking site won't mean much.

There is no clear answer for this. If you are using bookmarking for backlinking purpose to boost ranking in google then it may work or may not. :rolleyes:

Instead of bookmarking 1000 social sites. Pickup top one, create an interesting content (not informative) and share on that site. This single efford will produce better results than bookmarking 1000 social sites.

Stumbleupon, pinterest and facebook for me have worked the best. Also if you want some really high PR backlinks then make a few youtube videos and put a clickable link in the video description for a high pagerank backlink from youtube to your site.

Social bookmarking / networking signals are still some of the best scalable strategies to getting links to your inner webpages. Most marketers focus only on their homepage but if you take the time to build out your inner pages you'll see a nice boost in overall search engine traffic across your website.

It still works, but I am more focused on other SEO strategies.

Really depends on your niche I think - we're in the loan industry and just try and get some social action in that niche! If your niche is recipes or cute puppies you could do well.

Works to accomplish what? If you're after nofollow links from no to poor PR pages, I'm sure social bookmarking is good tool for you. It's a bit like social media without any of the benefits of social media.

As per my knowledge, social bookmarking will completely help you grow your search rankings. It is easily indexed on search engines. It is not dead. It is one of the best parts of off page SEO

As an owner of 12 Bookmarking websites, i do hope all is well. i have mainly pr4 sites and get around 2000 page views a day to each site. I should point out that i dont post links to my own blogs.
I dont know enough about seo and i am still in the learning stages

SB is not dead yet. It is still very important to improve the traffic to a website. But it should be noted that you must add your link to social bookmarking sites faves, diggo, Digg, Technorati, etc..

I suggest you go for only high authority social bookmarking sites (top 50). It is better you vary the anchor text, post titles and descriptions to get better backlinks that can rank your pages.

Bookmarking should be combined with other seo techniques.And when bookmarking ,don`t throw your link where ever ,take a deeper look at the bookmarking sites and separate them in a way that they are relevant to your content you want to bookmark.For example don`t bookmark your weight loss content to finance sites .As well DO NOT over do it.Just take it slowly but systematically.
