Ive been getting into SEO lately to promote my new site, I have read about the initial boost Google gives new websites. It does this in order to give the latest info in their listings, right?

Well I have started moving up the listings and I would like to know how long does this initial help last? Just want to know what I should be prepared for.

Thanks guys!

Zoheb

I have a few sites, that have kept going up after a couple of months, and some others that just dropped out, the difference? well the ones that dropped out i stopped updating and google threw them aside pretty much. If you keep posting new content, and building backlinks that google love should stay around for a very long time =)

i have one pretty new site for a specific health condition where i am #1 for the keyword some months now - this totally surprised me. (I even outrank wikipedia).

This is a WP blog where i only have 5-6 articles regarding the topic on it and i did NOT constantly update content. I actually had the site dormant and didnt do anything with it, unlike some other blogs where i constantly put new content on it.

So..from that point of view its sometimes a mystery why sites rank and why they stay.

Well adding new content regularly will be a problem for me since my website is about selling my services. Its nothing like a blog or an information site.

So I guess I just have to keep building backlinks regularly and see how it goes. GeorgR, your post gives me hope

Apart from regular backlinks, is there anything else I can do to keep my static website high in the serps?

You can always add a blog to your website as well, talk about your services, new developments, latest news anything related. Even a news page where you add press releases, related information, links etc helps.

Adding extra pages also increases the benefits from internal links and gives your site more weight with Google, it also encourages both google and customers to revisit.

You can rank well with static sites but without adding new content they will slowly fall in rankings - that's my experience anyway.

What about adding a comment box, like in a blog? At the bottom somewhere where I can ask visitors to ask my a public question related to anything in my niche? I know Il have to do it well for it to be active and work, but If I can get it done, will it be enough for the spiders to come back?

I mean a new comment can even be just one line. Is that enough of an update? Just want to get a clearer idea about this.

    Thanks!

      Hi Zoheb,

In the title of your post you asked "how long does Google love last"? If it's true love, it grows with time. The short term boost you get from QDF is really just a flirtation, not love, and very short lived, a few days to a few weeks at most.

If your content is good, Google's true love will grow with time (and backlinks). And remember, the same goes for backlinks, Google's love of your backlinks will grow with time also (especially relevant backlinks).

    Nice reply Don.

I should have used the word 'flirting' on my title

The short term boost is what I was talking about. So from what I gather there is no way to really say how long. I just have to keep it fresh, build regular backlinks, and keep my eye on the competition.

    Thanks!
