Hi friends,

Is it worth to edit old blog post for better seo?
Because old content was poorly written and no more seo optimized.
Any ideas about it?

Thanks.

I recently asked this question on WF.
The answer is yes, you can update the old content. Still, if you want to "update" (adding new content and information), better leave the old content and add the new content with *UPDATE* prefix.

This whole creating a blog to churn out site updates, is so primitive. There is so much more you can do these days to keep your site updated without looking like a content mill.

      What would you do?

As that's exactly what I see people doing, attaching some blog to it and pasting some boring laps of text that make zero sense for the purpose of the site. In fact that kind of practices can degrade the quality of the site in the eye's of Google.

It's always a good idea to edit old content in my opinion. I once changed a single paragraph and (h2) header in an article that got about 5-30 hits per day, about a week after the change it started receiving 200-300 hits per day. Just one example, so yes, it's a good idea

You can edit the cotent of your old articles or blog but do remember that it should have some keyword frequency in it same as older one. And I would prefer to add new post rather than editing it for SEO

Update and add new content. Last week I update and add new content in my website and since last week I am getting about 300 clicks to my blog. The only thing is add quality content with pictures and useful links.

    Hi,
You can edit old content and surely it will not harmful for SEO. But make sure that it is indexed by Search Engine or not? If not then you have to index anyway.
Also I prefer to post new content simultaneously.

In certain circumstances editing or updating your content is a wise decision. It is however best to try and write content in a way that doesn't need much updating. Writing about evergreen topics always helps too!

You can edit your old blog posts and add some more content as well, when your new content is indexed you would get the benefit.

Better update new content, unless you have enough time to do all the work ( new & old content).

Yes. I would certainly go back and optimize old blog posts (if you have all other things in order). Be sure to have PageSpeed performance (80% or higher) and microdata (schema.org) markup completed before going back and optimizing older blog posts though.

    Always prioritize.

If you feel the quality of that old content wasn't good enough, don't edit it, instead remove that content and re upload after re-writting it, if the new content has good quality then search engines will find it fresh and give value to it.

I've taken web pages & completely re-purposed the pages for targeting new keywords, Google is pretty good about things like that, just make sure to stay in the same niche & never mess with the old URL.

Hi Soharox, yes its too worthy for a website to edit the oldest blog post with new or fresh content.
If you found that your old blog content is useless then ofcourse change the whole content otherwise just put some fresh content according to the present's requirements.

If you believe the older contents on your website do need some revisions and updates, there is nothing wrong with modifying them.

Of course another idea is to leave the older, cached pages alone and then write some fresh contents which will address new issues discussed.

    YES!!

    BIG YESS!

You can modify the pages title tags to rank bettter, you can benefit from the new updated content Google sees, just don't change the URLS!

This is a great way to add additional value to the post, clean it up and change the title tags to be more "seo friendly"

There's nothing wrong with tweaking pages in an effort to have them perform better in the SE.

One area I would recommend focusing on are your page titles. As said above, no need to muck around changing your urls.

  • Yes no problem with updating old content. In fact Google loves updates and updating your old posts mean adding something new and the new pages that are recently updated may have better chance of coming up on top pages of SERPs.
