  An SEO audit is a great way to determine the current optimization state of your website and quickly see what you need to improve. You should take care about the page title, meta description, meta keywords, header tags etc. You can use some seo audit tools which can help you with your content like squirrly seo audit, seo x-ray, seobook etc. I use seo audit by squirrly seo. Also, squirrly seo shows you the keyword ranking for each keyword you use, so you can analyses your keywords

I suggest you to check MOZ's learning program Learn SEO - Moz

It does have detailed insights to learn SEO, both for personal & commercial use.

If you've gained knowledge on SEO auditing etc, you can use linkassistants website auditor or alexas site audit to generate an SEO audit for your desired website.

You will need some tool that checks your backlinks and in a full seo audit you should also check the factors like broken links, re directs etc. Monitor backlinks is something that you should try

SEO SpyGlass is for backlink research.

If you are interested in solving broken links, check canonicals are correct, fixing duplicates titles/content, checking Google Analytics installed on all pages etc. that kind of site auditing, you may also find this article interesting:

If you are doing SEO for your website and don't know about auditing then I think you will unable to determine the ranking of your keywords and nature of backlinks of your website. To stay in touch with your keywords ranking and quality of the backlinks either these are natural and relevant to your website, is possible only if you have knowledge of SEO audit.
