Targeting same keywords for 2 Websites

Ok, let me explain you all in brief. I have several websites under different niche (but they are some what relevant to each other). I have one main website which has information about all these services, so my question is can I target the same keyword for 2 sites. For ex: I have 5 sites and all these will have link from one of my MAIN website with individual pages for each service. Can I use the same keywords used on SITE 1 to MY MAIN website's service page (individual)? I'll have a link to my SITE 1 from this page.

    The whole concept sounds like a link wheel or a site network to me. Some of my SEO peers testified that similar networks have been on the radar on Goggle during the recent update, so make sure you don't have one and the same Google Analytics and GWT account for the whole lot.

    As for your keyword question, just build links and write relevant content for both site. And don't overdo with exact matching anchors when building links. These days it can do more harm than good.
