    There are two ways that I know of to affect Alexa ranking. One install their widget on your site (then hide it with css). And two install their toolbar on your browser with your site set as the opening home page. I found that the toolbar massively slows my browser so I installed it on IE and just open it once a day. Both of these are used to record traffic. The toolbar records your traffic and the widget records every ones traffic to your site. Using these two tricks has dropped my number by a few hundred thousand in a few months.

    Alexa rank always depends on your traffic. If you get large number of traffic then your Alexa rank will be decrease and if you get few or low amount number of traffic then your Alexa rank will be increase.
