I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question, but i need clarification.
I want to start guest blogging because i have great content to contribute and i would also like the seo benefit for my site. My question is when i create a post to contribute to another site do i first let that post index on my site first like i would do if i was submitting it to an article directory or would i just put that post on the guest blog and not at all on mine??

With guest posting the site owner would want the benefit of having the content be unique to his or her site, not posting content that has already been indexed and therefore not unique.

Frankly, it would be a horrible idea to post the content on your site and then have it duplicated on another site that likely has a greater degree of trust and dare I even say PR in these questionable-PR times.

You will essentially be Negative SEO'ing the page on your domain which over time might have site-wide implications as Google evolves their updates further.

Guest posting is good. It can give you web 2.0 value.
But you have to examine the quality of the guest blog website. Mainly how much older it is, page rank, keywords and the most vital is it in your niche.

About posting: write user friendly and unique content that really people looking for.

      Hey J,

Yeah, duplicating your posts is a really bad idea, and you'll find that almost all sites that allow guest blogging is going to laugh if you offer them already-posted material. You've got to stick to the basics:

Write a great post and get it published on a site in your niche that allows guest blogging. You're already focusing on the "great content" portion, so I don't need to ream your neck on the subject of developing stellar content every time you post something.

Through that post, you will direct people to your site because they think you're amazing and you have created followers and built credibility. As you post more on other sites, you'll start to see yourself pop up on google searches more. Give it a few months, and you'll find that your traffic has significantly increased and a lot of people from the other sites are being redirected to your site.

I would do this: guest blog 2 times for every time you post on your site for a couple of months. Then switch to a 1:1 ratio. You'll find that this will really get you moving in the right direction. Hope this helps.

I concur that the content should be unique to the blog you're guest blogging on.

Anything else would be disrespectful in my opinion.

I remember I had a political blog once and I accepted guest blog posts.

I demanded that all content be unique, and that I own it after they post.

    Sounds reasonable right?

    But what would I know.

Afterall my political blog failed dismally.

(I DID have a lot of guest bloggers though. Some political pundits you may have heard of if you watch Foxnews / CNN).

But, take my word for what it's worth.

Afterall I put some thought into it... Once upon a time.

As long as there's a link back to the original source its called syndication, not duplicate content.
I do this all the time.
That being said... if someone wants original content then that's what you should give them...but personally if im going to write original content its going to be for my site...not someone else's.

For guest blogging it is not a good idea to put the original contents on your site first. In most of such cases, no reputed site will accept your articles because of the issues of duplicated contents.

    Thanks everyone.
I was just wondering because I'm following a wso and it says to to get between 1-5 guest post a week which is fine. Then social bookmark my links. And I wasn't sure if it meant to social bookmark the URL of the site I put my guest post on or my own URL

  • Several of the posts here are wrong. It is not bad to post it on your site first, then offer it to another site (though technically this is syndication and not so much guest blogging, but that's just semantics).

Sadly, however, most sites which accept guest posts will want them to be unique to their site (which shows an ignorance of how the web works on their part). It is best to just give it to them and save the frustration of trying to educate them (IMHO).

Either way, however, your site is going to benefit. Primarily from the direct traffic you get from that site (very targeted!) and secondarily from a SEO bump (much less important).

Well, I kind of disagree on this one..

Staying on topic, it is best that you write something unique for your blog because Google will give value to the content on high authority website. If the authority of Guest blogging website is higher than yours, you will be in deep waters for having the same copy. So stay away!

Well I would never do that, I mean If I am going to do a guestblogging I'd never put the article on my site, same when I'd be offering it I'd check if the article has been published beofre.

I think it's not a good idea that you will just have to copy your content from one source to another, it's still considered as duplicate and may get flagged by Google. Try to post your original content first on a blog where you can do guest blogging. After that, you should create another unique content for each blog that you are targeting to do some guest post. I'm sorry to say that one high quality article is better than a thousand duplicate articles.

The worst thing you could do is to duplicate your existing content. The same goes for duplicating of guest posts that you published at some sites. The last thing webmasters are looking for is duplicate content.

We used to have a severe issue with a client who copied deal of guest posts we published on his behalf. We found them submitted across couple of article directories... luckily he had enough common sense to remove that, otherwise all the work we had done would have been in vain.

When guest posting, always look to cater the readers' interests and to fit their views. Make sure to take it an extra mile when writing the guest posts and be there to respond the comments and interact with the audience. This way you build a lasting cooperation with webmasters

Guest posting is no doubt a best way to get awesome back-links, to increase search engine ranking and traffic too but don,t post the content on your website. Create unique content for guest posting.

When doing guest posts, make sure that your content is unique. other wise, the blogger will reject your guest post. in case, the blogger forgets to check your content for uniqueness and publish it - at some time later, when he will scan again with copyscape etc. he will find your content to be duplicate and delete it.

So, always guest post with unique content.

I agree with other guys here that it's not a very good idea to publish the content from your site without any changes on other resources as guest posts.

Still, if you're up to it, look for sites that allow syndicated content. The only one of high quality that comes to my mind is business2community. Here's a proof link with their guidelines: Contributor Guidelines - Business 2 Community

This is very bad idea !
If suppose you are submitting your guest post content on blog which got more PA and DA, than Google will penalize your blog for copying content from that high DA and PA blog even if that content was first posted on your blog.

In guest blog post, every website owner wants unique and good quality content to post its own blog. And its very good for both parties if they have unique and fresh content.

do not publish same content with other blog page. It will make your content got banned from Google. Wait until your first article was index by Google and publish another. But, make sure no more fishy with your article and also links. And make balance with dofollow or nofollow backlinks.
