Promoting Amazon products using PPC Traffic

I have thought about buying traffic to promote Amazon and similar products from PPC traffic.

Has anyone had any luck doing this?

I have thought about using SEO methods to rank pages/sites....but prefer to speed things up.

Ive tried a few diffrent campaigns with adwords and bing to diffrent review sites. The result? It was not profitable...Im sure their are people that can make it work, but im not one of them.

Sure some niches are better then others for paid traffic, but here are some typical statistic from one of my sites just do the maths:

    CTR to amazon 10-20%

    Conversion rate 6-8%

Average sale $7 (what I make in comission)

So every 100 unique visitor to my site will give me around $7.

That means I can afford to pay $0.07 per click to break even.

And remember this is highly targeted search traffic that looking for exactly that product.if you run campaigns with more general keywords for example hair loss and you sell hair loss products, you can expect a much lower CTR.

It's real hard to get the numbers to pencil out for Amazon because of (1) the low commission rate and (2) the 24-hour cookie.

If you don't already know your numbers in promoting a product and looking to step into this "cold" with a new product it can get ugly fast. But if you are already promoting a product and sending traffic to Amazon, and know your conversion rate, it will be simple math to have a feel for whether this can be profitable.

I now think it makes more sense to promote a high quality PLR product....take content from the sales page that is usually provided and put on my own paypal payment button.

Track the visits and conversions and adjust the PPC campaign as needed.

You have to go after EXTREMELY targeted "buyer" keywords. I was able to do this and do a little better than breaking even. The problem? It was far too much work monitoring everything and ensuring that the campaigns remained profitable.

And I've been better off creating videos for those keywords anyway. Videos tend to rank really well. They stick. And they cost nothing.

You can't direct link to Amazon and the commission is too low to bother in most cases.

Last year when I had an MS Adcenter voucher, I promoted Amazon with it. I spent about $200 and earned about $200, so I broke even just about.

The clicks were rather expensive. I think about $0.50-0.60 per click. I bid lower at first, but I wasn't getting any clicks so I had to raise the bid.

I was promoting fairly expensive items, about $800+. I think it would be very difficult to make a positive ROI if you are promoting products in the $100-$300 price range.

There are cheaper ad networks than MS Adcenter, but im not sure if the traffic quality would be good enough to make sales. Some people use Facebook PPC to their Amazon site, but that is rather expensive also.

OK...so Amazon and PPC seems like a tough match to get working.

Has anyone tried to promote high quality PLR products via PPC traffic?

I've never tried that. It would be interesting to hear people's results on it though.

Probably pretty similar to promoting any other kind of product. It all comes down to your targeted keywords on ability to convert your traffic.
