Hi guys,

Just a quick one I`ve been buying aged domains with page rank 3/4 for a while now some I`ve added to SEO hosting and used as backlinking blogs and other`s I`ve built actual sites on.

Now the one`s I`m using as backlinks I`ve got privacy on and seo hosting,

but the others that I built sites on are just in my hostgator account I was wondering if its ok to add google analytics to these or could that lead to problems ? I cannot mkae my mind up?

Thanks James

DON'T, there is no point, it's not worth the risk, I can't think of any good reason to do so unless you wanted to flip them or something and needed stats.

There are plenty of SERVER-SIDE stats programs around that Google cannot possibly detect - I have been using Tracewatch (free, Google it) for years. It's PHP-based, which also means you see EVERY visitor, including those with Javascript disabled etc. (like bots).

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

No probs. Cool thing is you can set up one install of it somewhere on a subdomain of yours, or even just a subfolder, and run all your sites off it. It's only if you start having really heavy traffic that you should think about a Javascript-based option, but even then, better not use any of Google's services.

@markowe I'm looking at the website for Tracewatch but can't see if it will show you keywords/phrases that visitors searched for. Is that function there, am I just missing it?

      Otherwise looks good.

Yes, you go down to the "Referrers" section for the particular site and you will see Google Search, Bing Search etc. (along with other referring sites, in the case of direct traffic). You click on the little downward arrow next to Google Search and a dropdown appears, and then click on the little menu icon next to "Google Search urls/keywords" and there are your keywords. Unfortunately, a lot of the time it will say something like "&esrc=s", which is basically the same as "Not provided" in Analytics, i.e. the referring keywords are not available due to Google encrypting searches. Most keywords are like that now, unfortunately...
