EMD and SEO

Hello.
Does EMD (exact domain matching) affect your positions on search engines result page nowadays or it have been completely negated by Google's "EMD update" ?

    It still helps but not like years ago. However focus on branding rather than picking up crap names to get some seo bonus.

    The EMD Algo update that hurt a lot of sites in it's initial launch has actually been "softened" considerably by Google. Many sites have recovered decently from it, but the EMD has not been given all of its ranking strength back. Basically, it's definitely a good idea to get a domain with your keywords. Google has also shown to agree with this after they had poor such search results from the EMD Algo update and softened it rather quickly. Personally, I noticed that sites with an EMD match rank strong when they also have very closely related keyterms specifically their title tags, H1 tags and not necessarily exact matched words to their domain name.

    It doesn't matter much if you have an EMD or not in terms of Google but may have a positive impact on your visitors as it may look more relevant (and appealing) to the services you offered.

      EMD's don't count as much as they did a couple of years ago.

      If you did have an EMD, Google would notice it but counts it for only a fraction of what it uses to rank your site. So Google did not completely negate this out of the equation.

      HOWEVER, it is not necessary to stress over having an exact matching domain name just to scrape up a few points . . . especially if your domain name is more than 3 words long, more than 20 characters, and a few hyphens.

      If your domain name is short it will help to have a part of your domain name in it.

      The MAIN thing that is important is when your domain name in brand-able (easy / fun to remember) rather than having it matching exactly.

    EMDs never ranked a page for any keyword that was half way competitive. Brand the site & do SEO.

      Branding > EMD every time.


      I rank for keywords that aren't in my domain because I build quality content around the keyword. Keywords in domains mean very little.
