Hi there,

I would like to setup a new adwords campaign for my cousins business to save him money.

He is current;y been using a company to do his adwords but suspect they are not being completely honest.

Just wondering whats involved? Is it difficult and time consuming?

I assume once you have the keywords set up, the only work that you need to do is add more funds once their used up? Is this correct?

Thanks.

Once the keywords are setup what work is involved on an ongoing basis? Is it just adding new funds every month?

You are right in your assumption that once the keywords are setup, presuming you have chosen the right keywords, there is only a couple hours of maintenance per month, unless your cousin's business is one where lots of new products are added every week, and you have to cover those too.

However, as with everything else there is a learning curve to AdWords. PPC Hero has done a great job with their beginner's guide to AdWords. It's a good reference whenever you have a question: PPC Hero’s Beginner’s Guide to PPC | PPC Hero®

Adwords' own help section is also very thorough in its explanations of how things work.

Thanks very much Drop out. That looks like a great guide

Yes my cousins business is one where no new products would need to be added.

Just wanted to know what kind of "maintenance" do you mean? Do you mean just accessing results?

      Thanks.

That is really not to hard... just log-in with you Gmail ID and after that visit keyword planet under tools. that just select your keywords and set it on daily base.. make like select what county or language you want to show that give you accurate Traffic like target traffic ... just make a payment and enjoy that traffic.

Yes by maintenance I mean look at the data you have gotten: keep keywords that convert, ditch the ones that do not convert/cost too much, consider adding variations of keywords that works and related keywords etc. Always have two ads running, change the one with lower CTR or that converts the worst.

  • adwords again huh !!

it's not hard not easy too lol !!

lets get serious in adword what main important are below steps

    1st) keyword research
    2nd) good quality score
    3rd) landing page optimization
4th) clickable display ad designing with call to action

if you know only above 4 metrics than you can win the game .. you need to be focus almost once in a day or you can set alert report so if your ad is going on 2nd page on any keyword than adword will mail you about alert ..

so just understand 4 metric given by me than adword will be easy game for you ..

    best of luck mate

Setting it up and make it run is super easy. making it work is another. That takes experience. You can study the Google Adwords exam...Lots of studies but can get done if you are diligent...I would eitehr stop it now and learn all you can or outsource to some professional who know what they are doing...

doesn't matter. if your k.w. costs $3+...70+ clicks one buyer no mount of "cost saving" can help you if your profit isn't big enough. It's too efficient for most mall businesses.

I only bid on four keywords, and I spend a couple hours per day working in my account, and another few hours on the landing pages.

If you just keep "adding more funds", you won't realize how much money you are losing until you start to go broke, and wonder where all your money went.

      To answer your question.

Yes, there is maintenance and you have to understand what keywords and ads are converting for you. Whether they are form conversions or phone calls.

There is not enough data for phone call conversion, but there is enough to have an idea.

Understanding metrics is also important. At the end of the day, you would like to know what's working and what's not. What's costing you too much and what you can take advantage of that's not costing too much.

There is a lot of data and analysis that has to be done, so you should be prepared for that. If you have the time, then do it!

If not, then spending a few hundred dollars for someone to maintain it might make sense. Just do your due diligence if hiring a PPC manager.

If you need further assistance, you can message me and I can try to help.

If you set up a new account, Adwords will give you $100, a sales rep and a tech rep. The tech rep will set up some base ads, keywords and display ads.

They call you every so often at first to get you up to speed and tweak your account.

Also there is toll free help any time you need it. Some reps know what they are doing and some give bad advice.

There are a few things I have learned:

          1. Set goals, track in Analytics and tie to Adwords to know what works.

          2. Use link extensions and phone number extensions that show in your ad. Phone number extensions are especially good since people can call with zero clicks.

          3. Google's experts will try to get you to bid high. Don't overpay. My goal is to be #3 result not #1.

          4. Set up ad groups so your keywords are specific for the group. Make sure you direct people to the landing page for that key phrase. Don't expect people to hunt for their page in your menu system or from the home page. Plus Google will charge you less if the key phrase is on the page i.e. Product A key phrase = Product A Landing Page

          5. Write a lot of variations of ads . .. . each with a call to action. You never know what will work. One word can make a huge difference. Dump the loser ads

          6. Track your keywords . .. . if people don't stay on your site and bounce . . . dump those losers. Your money is better spent on winners and Google will charge you less for your ads if your ads are successful

          7. Enter negative words that you don't want to send you traffic

          8. Use phrase match and + signs on key words . . . . don't just broad match

          9. Let's say you are in a specific niche . . . don't try to educate people interested in the generic item. You will burn money and have too many bounces.

          10. Know when people place orders and run ads only during those times.

          11. Monitor your ads at least every day when you first start. You will immediately start getting statistics so you can tweak your ads and lower your cost per click.

Doing this at the start of a campaign . . . . my cost per click is reduced by a 1/2 to 1/4 the initial cost within about 1 week.

Everyone has to run the statistics . . . . expert or newbie to see what works. When it is your money . . . you tend to watch the ads very closely.
