I created a website about an year ago and after the Panda and Penguin update, it tanked. So my interest in it faltered and I let the domain expire. I was in no mood to use its content as I believe Google takes this badly (using an already indexed content).

A few days back I noticed that someone had copied my entire expired website completely and pasted on a new domain! All my articles are same, the layout is same, even the ad positions are same!

I don't think this will affect me in any way, but doesn't Google de-indexes such websites? Alternatively how can I place a complain with Google about this? Isn't this copyright infringement?

It is a case of copyright infringement. Do you have any idea on how he got it from you? If you want to file some complaint, you will really need to collect all the evidence that you can get to prove that it was really yours. Have you tried contacting the owner of the page?

Thanks for the suggestion. How can I contact because even the contact us page shows my contact details!! I have no idea how he got it but yes I have all the evidence that the site belongs to me. So the next step is to file DMCA, I guess.

Wow, that is really sick. If he is using the same contact details, how were you able to tell that someone else was using it for his benefit? It is really hard to trace that right now. Just collect all your solid evidences. And yes, DMCA, I guess, should be your next stop.

The Google algo. doesn't care which site scraped content, SEO is what decides which site ranks (original site vs. scraped site).

The copyright issue is between you & the person that scraped your old site.

At this moment Google is not worried about contents rather domains while imposing penalties. I used all my BMR posts in my private blog network. Never faced any problem. May be in future. Who knows?

Use DCMA to get the copy taken down.

I found somebody once copied ALL of my hubpages, and of course the copies were outranking my own hubs.

If you care enough about the efforts that you made in creating that old website, then start gathering all your evidences. It will not be easy and just like what yukon said, Google algorithm doesn't really care about it. It will really be a case between you and the person who copied your old website.

This is a common technique uses by SEOers who do nothing but test methods. They don't care about the long-term of their business or site. You should know there are WP plugins and web site scripts which disable the right-click/copy-paste function onto a page.

    Worth trying, isn't it?

Was this helpful? Do you have any further questions?

Yes, this is definitely helpful. I will try it with my other websites.

Those plugins won't work, im willing to bet they copied the content from the wayback archive after Google deindexed it. And if that's the case then you're pretty much screwed. In Googles eyes they are now the original site to index it first.

Really it's only copyright if you own something saying that, just due to the fact that you created something means nothing. I wouldn't bother with it, and I would just move on.

No Google will not de-index the site, and I'm 99.9% you won't be able to do anything, and DCMA would be a waste of time.
