Title and Tagline for SEO in Wordpress

If you have a banner and not the title and tagline showing, then does it matter to fill in title and tagline in Wordpress? I'm talking about where you go into Settings, General and there is a space to fill in Title and Tagline. If they are not displayed on your homepage, then do that matter, so far as Google is concerned. I think so, but I really don't know.

Thanks!

You want to fill in the title in the setting because that is what will show up in your title tag on the homepage.

There is a plugin called something like "All In One SEO" that you could install if you wanted to fill in all the Meta tags yourself.

I second that....this is a great plugin and will make it so much easier to optimize your site. Post, pages as well as homepage etc.

Tagline is not required. Just fill in the title section.

I would suggest Wordpress SEO above the rest for a whole number of reasons. Yoast the place

If nothing else the title and tag line help the search engine user determine if your page is relevant for their needs, as this info is shown in search results. Though it doesn't guarantee you will achieve higher search engine rankings by using it.

Technically, it's also not guaranteed that your title tag or meta description will show in the search results. Google can use any title tag or description they want.
