Clients getting spammy backlinks

So I work in a SEO firm, and I received a complaint about spammy link.
When I take a look at it, the site has very low pr/pa/da and I do my link building by hand and that site was not part of the list. However, the anchor text is one of the keywords that I am trying to get and the ip address seems to be coming from my place.

The weird thing is, I will always hide my ip with hma and proxies to do link building. Can someone provide me an explanation?

I would say you have a very experienced competitor that might be getting the best of you. I would just make sure you keep an eye on it and get those links removed.

What do you mean you received a complaint about a spammy link? A complaint from who? Your client?

And how can you tell what IP address was used to place the link? Unless you own the website, you cannot tell what IP was used to access the site.

Smells like a little bit of BS on this one...

Maybe the website he placed his backlink on got a complaint directly from the webmaster. Hence, his I.P got tracked.

Well, that's just 1 scenario but the chances of getting a direct complaint for a spammy link from the webmaster is like 1/200. Most people just ignore or delete the link instead of going to the extent of sending out an email complaining about a link on his/her website.

Hello, If you're looking to categorize spammy links in order to determine which ones to remove/disavow then look for:

    • Low PR
    • high outbound links
    • adult/warez sites
    • very high alexa rank

Use these together with online only's list and you'll probably find more to remove than keep but it'll be worth it. Have a nice day.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Second that....what you're doing is spamming for clients, not SEO.
