the 5000 character question

Hai guys,

so i've been talking to a Russian SEO guy (my site is all Russian) and he said the following:

"it is essential to have about 5000 characters of text on the main page"

i can see the logic kind of, but unless i misunderstood him 5000 characters is like a few pages of text, all seeded with keywords that arent my main targets (currently looking at ones with better comp levels). awesome...

now, my site probably won't win the title of super sexy site of the year, but why should i add ALL that text to my home page when it will make it look $hit, plus, who the F is even going to read it?

I noticed a ton of russians websites have these huge blocks of super small font text on their main pages, and i always thought, 'wow, that looks so and nobody will ever read it.'

just seems like bad user experience to me. and for, it's important like user have super easy, crystal clear navigation experience

what are your thoughts?

thanks in advance

Privet, Donald Draper, kak zhizn? [Russian]

It's not "essential," there is no such SEO rule. Look at examples of successful sites -- almost none of them have a lot of text on the home page. Google, Microsoft....

But it helps a little to have abundant relevant text on the home page. When your site is not an authority site, it can still go a long

Just put it below the fold. Very few people scroll below the fold. But make it highly relevant, so that those who do scroll down don't bounce from the page.

    I hope this helps.

It's not excessive, the more unique text you have the better. It won't hurt. Just put it below the fold, so it does not act as a distraction.

Is your SEO optimizing for Google or for Yandex / Rambler? The Russian search engines may have special requirements. The are more simple than Google, so a large amount of text may well have a larger impact in them (I am not sure about that).

He doesn't know what he's talking about. The amount of text on a page doesn't rank a page.
