Does Google Adsense Work on a Product Based Website???

I'm from a state that Amazon does not allow affiliate marketing in so I cannot partner with them to sell products on my website. I was wondering if I can monetize it via Google Adsense. Does that even make sense? Can you make money using Google Adsense on a site that sells a product?

Also, what other affiliate programs/companies are there out there that will allow me to become an affiliate with in Rhode Island that pays decent commissions?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

It is very unlikely Adsense will approve the site. Adsense is for publishers of content.

Eh? AdSense works just great on sites about products.

Whatever.... come back and explain when the site gets rejected by Google with the message "site does not comply google's policy's" that it will when its not accepted.

Obviously, two very different opinions going on here.

Does anyone have specific examples of Adsense being a good monetizing option on a product website?

Why don't you just apply and come back and tell us what adsense said?

Does your site give content about a product? If so and it is not trying to sell the product it should be ok.

If you make a site about coffee machines, as long as your content is unique and high quality, you would be fine.
Are you already in the adsense program ?

Good point cbpayne!!!! I will join the Adsense program soon to see what they come back with.

My goal is to do both: provide good content on a product & sell that product. But this is where I'm a bit confused. Can a site sell a product that has good content written on it via Adsense? Or, is Adsense just for informational sites?

A long, long time ago....google sent out case studies to adsense users,
as examples, and as a way of singing MORE adsense users up.

One case study was a plastic surgeon. Obviously, a "product," plastic
surgery. Google had told him to add adsense because not everyone who
visits the page will buy YOUR service. Give them some options.

Now that's not a straight up comparison, but have you ever looked close at
amazon pages? They have ads! Go figure. If you can't find what you are
looking for, how about clicking on an ad? We don't carry xyz blender, but
yxzblendersite is paying us to put ads...

People do not really know what the definition of content is. Content is
not made up of articles alone. It comes in many flavors.

I can't stand those Amazon ads.

Ebay does the same thing (ads) & it's confusing when a person thinks they're shopping on Amazon or Ebay only to be looking at ad images that lead traffic off into oblivion on external links. The ads look the same as the rest of the product images on Amazon & Ebay.

Those ads are poor user experiences IMO.

You will have to change your site into an article based site when monitizing with adsense. Unless you have another idea for unique content.

How are you getting traffic? If you're getting traffic from SEO it's best to target keywords like product name price or product name review. You can also rank for long tail physical product model names but short tail product names won't happen.

Example: Don't try to rank an adsense site for the keyword kitchenaid mixer. You simply wont' be able to rank no matter what you do with your backlinks. Why? Because G wants ecommerce sites on page 1, not an article based site with adsense.

But you would have a shot at ranking for kitchenaid mixer prices. Of course you would have to know how to do seo properly. But if you do, G will allow you to rank. Same thing with long tail keywords.

If you're getting traffic from other places like social media then no problem.

Of course either way you have to have quality content. In your articles ask questions and then answer them.

Another possible affiliate program to join that has lots of physical products would be Commission Junction.

      Forehead smack.

If you actually sell real products there's no reason google will ban you for adding Adsense unless you're breaking other policies.

The real question is do you want targeted ads with direct competition on your site? Only you know the answer to that.

If you're talking about an affiliate site "selling" stuff then you need to read the policy closely and understand it.

I agree except the Social Media Part. I have clients who applied with those website having Social media traffic , disapproved . SEO is THE BEST method if you wanna get into adsense. Update website daily with fresh , unique and value adding content , use link building , directory submission , High PR links etc and of course you can blend it with Social media part BUT DON'T over do Social Media than link building if you need to apply for adsense .
If you have approved adsense account with ya then thats a different case.

If you can no longer sell the products on amazon, and cant find a site that will pay you a comission for selling that product, adsense will work well. Put the ads on, and your visitors will see that they cant buy on your site, and will follow the ads to somewhere they can.

You usually get highly relevent ads on product sites so it will help your CTR
