Low number of search keywords in Google

Hi, for some reason in Google Webmaster for my site, the total number of search keywords (a.k.a "search queries" in Google Webmaster) for my site is very low, only around 5. All of these search keywords in Google webmaster point to my main page. Conversely, in Bing Webmaster, the total number of search keywords is close to 100 for my site - that's 20x more than Google.

This has lead to way more impressions for me in Bing than Google. I've checked and all my pages are indexed in Google. Although these pages are indexed, they can't seem to gain traction in Google's search queries - what's the point of having your pages indexed by Google if it's not showing up in the search results? (These same pages are not having the same issue with Bing).

My site is using an old domain (it was a parked domain for almost 9 years) and the site has been up for almost 3 months. I checked and there were no penalties applied to my domain before I purchased it. My homepage is the only page that shows up for the search keywords in Google Webmaster (all 5 search queries point to my homepage). Google has seemed to ignore all my other pages.

Has anybody else experienced this? How long does it normally take before the search keywords start to show up for the other pages in my site?

Google and Bing are two different search engines (duh) and thus have different algorithms.

Just because you are getting a lot of impressions from Bing, doesn't mean you will get tons of impressions from Google, and vice versa.

Just because your site is "indexed" doesn't mean it will rank for anything in Google. There are plenty of sites that have hundreds/thousands of pages indexed in Google but get very little impressions, and this is especially true for sites that are in competitive niches.

Are you doing anything to promote your site? If not get cracking, merely being indexed is not enough.

Hi Guyman82. Thanks for the advice. Are you saying that I have to point a few backlinks with PR to my inner pages before my inner pages start to show up in the "Search Queries" section in Google webmaster?

Actually, I don't mind if my inner pages have a poor initial ranking. That's expected if there are no backlinks with PR to them. Unfortunately, because they don't show up in the "Search Queries" section in Google Webmaster after several months, it seems like they don't have any ranking at all (which is worse than poor ranking, IMO).

BTW, my inner pages are all competing against low competition keywords. My niche is not very competitive.

Just raise the overall authority of the domain by getting quality links to the homepage. Once your domain becomes "trusted" by Google the inner pages will rank on their own, especially if as you say your niche is low competition.

Thanks GyuMan82. That's exactly the answer I was looking for. The DA for my site is low because I have few backlinks to my site. Because the DA (Domain Authority) for my site is too low - that's why the inner pages will never rank. By this reasoning, as long as the DA for my site remains low, I can sit there forever and the "Search Queries" for my inner pages will never appear in Google Webmaster.

Interestingly, could this mean Bing is not as strict with DA as Google is? This would explain why my inner pages rank in Bing and not in Google.

No it just means their algorithms are different. For whatever reason your site seems to be scoring higher on Bing's algorithm than Google's.

Since your site has only been active with new content for a few months, it makes sense that not all pages are properly indexed or ranked. Just keep adding new content daily and backlink from reputable sites to those specific pages and Google will find you soon.

Hi alphabanter, You have to do some work for your inner pages. And if possible then get backlinks for your inner page from reputed or thematical sites having high PR. Once your innner page get good backlinks or PR then it will also improve the status of your main page.

Thanks deepakrawat. I definitely agree with you on this. If the DA for my site is weak, backlinks with PR to the inner pages should help.

I also like GyuMan82 's point about a weak DA working against the inner pages. For instance, for some sites like stackexchange.com and hubpages.com, the inner pages rank pretty well without any backlinks to the inner pages. But IMO, that can be explained by GyuMan82's theory that those sites have a higher DA so Google will "trust" the site more.

I suppose the best strategy is to aim backlinks with PR at the main domain and the inner pages. That will help to boost the DA and also help some of the inner pages, creating a more natural looking link profile (I think 100% of your backlinks to the main domain only isn't very natural).
