Is this phrase worth the effort?

I'm interested in ranking for a phrase but not sure if I can.

A Google search without quotes has 131,000,000 results
A Google search with quotes has 380,000 results

The top 10 has a wikihow and an ehow, 1 authority size the the rest are article sites.

How would you go about ranking for this term, or would you even consider it worth the effort?

Are you starting from scratch or using an existing web property that's established? Search volume? Have you looked at strength of competition in terms of links to those pages?

Do the sites on page 1 have the keywords in the domain? If not, that's an advantage you could have.

Is it a longtail keyword? Could you add to the keyword phase, for example...

    "How to..."
    "Buy..."
    "Best..."

    etc. etc.

Using these keywords, you are pulling in traffic that are ready to buy a product rather ran just reading up on a product. It could also cut down your results.

Dean: I do have an established site but I wouldn't consider it an authority site yet. It's currently ranked 19th for the term. Haven't checked the inbound links on the other sites - I will do that.

Devilfish - There are a couple sites with the term in the domain but most do not. My site does not either. It is a longtail keyword that converts for me. I just wish I could get more traffic from the term.
