Hello, I have created a new website and I've had bad luck doing this in the past. In the past, i built way too many back links too fast, and too spammy so my website got 0 traffic in 2 months.

How can i make sure that i do this the proper way? Right now I built a new website and getting 5-10 backlinks a day from blog commenting, web 2.0 and social bookmarks.

Any advice so this website does not end up like my last 2 websites that got 0 traffic in 6 months for spamming links or something...

THANK YOU

Have you developed quality content in your website so that people will return to your site? What niche/area is your current site revolved around?

Don't build backlinks too fast, keep adding them slowly on regular basis, keep adding content to your site, do social bookmarking, press releases and submissions to get decent traffic. You can also advertise about your site to get targetted traffic.

The only thing out of that list that might help rank a page would be followed links from blog comments, the problem with that is If it looks like spam doubtful the links will stick. Anytime you have to force a backlink on another webmaster, don't expect it to stick long term.

Unless your 2.0 pages have PR/authority or niche traffic, they're useless.

    Bookmarks will never do anything.

Backlinks can help you but without quality content you will be fighting a losing battle. Are your readers engaged with what you are writing or giving them? With regards to backlinking are you varying the anchor text?

I agree with Yukon here. You can't manipulate the search engines anymore like you could years ago. High quality content is a necessity today, not just unique, but high quality...there is a difference.

High quality content is in-depth, solves your visitor's needs and keeps them on your site. Google rewards a great user experience, so if your bounce rate is high, this could affect your site's rankings.

I have used guest blogging as a linking method with success. Just make sure not to use exact match keyword anchor text regularly and find popular blogs to write for.

For my niche sites, I have found that adding more audience-focused, in-depth content that users love as well as engaging content like videos, images, adding comments (user-generated content) etc. has helped me to increase links automatically (people wanting to link to my content) and slowly rise in the rankings. I also use other methods to get traffic now and don't put all of my eggs in the Google basket!

        I didn't say that.

IMO SEO hasn't changed, it's still plain text + quality links.

Quality content comes into play after SEO has already happened (for traffic).

Before starting to advertise your site make sure it is full of good quality content and some pretty good SEO methods, this way if traffic starts to come it will stay due to the content you have on the site.

Don't worry about seo at the moment focus on ppc, split test, split test, split test and more split test. Until you have the keywords that are converting, and then take this key words and start to focus on seo on these words naturally building back links. good luck
