Do same IP servers hinder seo when linking partner sites?

My intention is to build 2 very independant sites (on related subjects) e.g. Fitness.com & nutrition.com

I will then have links to one another...

Currently both sites are registered with the same host BUT I understand that you shouldn't link sites that are hosted on the same IP address (as it frowned upon by Google).

Should I

a. Build the sites with 2 different hosts OR
b. Leave the 2 sites with the same Host and back link without fear OR
c. Do you have a best practice alternative that I am unaware of?

Please help.

Google has never, ever said any such thing.

This is true but there is a common belief that you should never link sites on the same IP address.

Wonder where this comes from and what data/info people have to make this argument

Probably comes from the ancient view of the Internet when it used to be one website per IP address.

These days with shared hosting, it's quite common to have 500-1000 unique sites on the same IP.

The issue comes if you are trying to hide a private network. One could make the argument that if you have sites you are using as part of an SEO network all with the same host and same IP address, it could make it easier to identify the network and put those sites at risk.

The OP is doing nothing like that though, so it is not an issue.

IP addresses have nothing to do with SEO.
That's myth nonsense, though many parrot and repeat the BS.

If it worries you, sign up for a free Cloudflare account and add one of the sites to your account. As far as Google is concerned, it will then have a different IP address. It will also make the site load faster from most countries in the world.

I have seen some evidence that Google does downgrade IP addresses listed in Project Honeypot as spammers.

    The steps are:
    1. Sign up for Cloudflare
    2. Add one of the sites to your account. Select the free option.
    3. Change the DNS server settings for the target domain to those Cloudflare gives you.

If it doesn't work out, you can always switch the DNS settings back to what they were.

Has nothing to do with same IP.

If you choose to spam, scam, con, scheme, etc. and you are
on a name brand, reputable host in the US, you will be shut down
      by your host, not google.

If you choose to do good things, have all your sites on a name
brand host, U.S., you have zip to worry about.

The deleted and penalized IPs are on no name idiotic hosts in
the US (rare these days as the feds have really cracked down),
or overseas. Choose to host in Pakistan, Russia, etc., that's
your fault. But that's not a "same IP" problem.
