Video Ranking Method Change

I've searched on here and not found any posts about a change in Google's treatment of Youtube videos, but some of our recent videos aren't popping to page 1 like they have been.

We do the standard ranking methods - Title - description, tags, bookmarks and backlinks. (pinging everything)

Has anyone else seen a big change in their new videos rankings? - Some don't even seem to be getting indexed. Is there now an overoptimization penalty?
We've tried different channels. Different profiles -

Any input appreciated.

    Have you tried "authority backlinks" yet?

    Hello Kevin,

    We've not needed them in the past - but are you seeing the need for them now? And is this a recent change. I'm not seeing vids showing up at all, when they have been popping up pretty quickly in the past. Page six or so in hours - now nothing.

      Your link spamming a Google property. How long do people think that method is going to last, when they're so tough on us link spamming other peoples property. I'm just suprised they didn't take action sooner.

    Unless your monetizing directly on a Youtube page it's counterproductive to rank a YT video page on Google SERPs when you could be ranking your own self hosted video/money page/s.

      And why can't you do both?

      Have a YouTube ranked at the top AND your own self-hosted video or web page embedded with the video?

        I agree the more place you can have on page 1 for a keyword the better off you're going to be, aren't you?

        Ranking Youtube video pages in Google SERPs is only driving traffic to competition YT videos. Nobody will get on YT to watch a single video.

        The more you force your traffic to jump through hoops (unnecessary links/clicks) the more your traffic will drop off.

        I know the IMer fad is to rank YT pages on Google SERPs but following the herd isn't usually a smart move.

        Wrong.

        You're driving traffic to competition videos while junking up Google SERP positions that could have been used to rank your own page.

          To me its more like rats trying to scratch their way through the bottom of the barrel (Google) to get a small piece of food. They're only capable of software link spam, which no longer works as well as it used to. So now they are just desperate to use the only links they can build to rank something that it will work on.

          It's like a poor mans churn and burn concept:
          Spam someone else's property to the top without risking your own site, but in turn take a tiny conversion rate when you get there.
