Relevant backlinks or high PR

Hi there,

I have a simple question. When building up backlinks, is it wise to go for backlinks from sites that a have a high PR or sites that are only relevant to my niche?

    I do both. But if you have to choose, take the one in your niche.

    Take whatever you can get. High PR, low PR, relevant or not relevant. Of course relevant is better. But then you only have a limited choice. Search for relevant links first and when you find something else on your way also make a link there. For instance blog comments. If you post a comment and check the blogs of the other commenters (usually not all relevant) there may be a high PR blog in between or a few lower ones but where you are not rejected as a spammer.

    We go for both. Having tried several methods over the past couple of years, we find that the best results have come from using relevant links from PR rated sites. In fact, we have been able to achieve good rankings with as few as 10 links from related sites verses several hundred from unrelated ones.

      yep... I completely do agree with you. However, relevancy with high PR is much more better.

        Stick with related sites , obviously them related sites will have or will get PR , your PR will grow naturally with out the cause to get links from totally unrelated

    Related is best. Their link is a much better referal then something that isn't related.

    Google says "this site is about xyz and links to that site with the anchor "blue xyz's" so that site must also be about "xyz's""

    Inspite of most people saying going with related, i disagree - the higher the pr the better - just make sure you use your anchor text properly and your link will be relevant.

    I've tested both, and a pr 7 unrelated link absolutely kills a pr4 link that's related (and i've got plenty of both!) in terms of helping your ranking.

    It's nice to get a high pr link that's related, but let's be honest - how often can you find them? Pretty difficult, and when you do find one you often have to pay through the nose to get it.

    All my high pr's have been free so far!

    Backlinks from theme related websites is more worth than high pr websites. Anchor text in backlinks is an important part of quality backlink. To get high keyword ranking, link back from theme related websites are important.

    backlinks from relevant websites is always better and preferable giving best results..
    However, sometimes you don't get enough high PR sites for relevant niche...so that time you have to go for irrelevant niche sites.

    This definitely isn't an either or question. Just build links. Start with the highest PR most relevant you can find then build whatever you can quickest and easiest. Use blog search tools. Get the high PR packets currently selling like hot cakes in the WSO forum. Buy submission software. Do it all.
