    Yeah very useful, press release links are still great, specially if they are high quality press release sites and not the ones that are spammed to death with utter crap content.

      As Alex said, they can still be useful but I wouldn't bother with free PR submissions. You've got to use some of the better services that do charge a fee.

        Any press release service that gets you syndicated into Google News or Yahoo News is recommended... the power in the press release links is how broadly they get syndicated. If you pick a service that gets no syndication then it is just a single backlink. If you get a service that gets you into other websites' news feeds then one press release could yield links from hundreds of websites. You want your press release to be in a topic space that is commonly covered. "The Color Spectra Variance of Garnets" not gonna cut it... but "Kim Kardashian Shows Off Newly Purchased Garnets" ...gonna get syndicated....
