Recently I was doing some searching and noticed Google Authorship seems to be really down. Not as many posts have author names by them. Seems to have happened in the last 2 weeks. Anyone else noticed?

I had trouble getting Authorship to work in last month. After a bit I figured out that I had to tag my profile image as myself & make the photo public.I don't know if it's still like that today

It really weird. I am hardly seeing anyone now with an authorship showing.

Can you provide a link where authorship is showing up in a google search. I want to see if I see the same thing.

Finally an educated response. Thanks linkassistant.

My authorship is reduced to a byline only, at least right now.

Really sucks, because I am sure I was grabbing some traffic for others who had higher rankings.

So far though, my analytics haven't gone down.

Matt Cutts announced at PubCon a couple months ago that this would happen, saying that the ability to have and use rich snippets may be taken away for low quality sites in the coming months. And this has indeed happened. Matt said this would likely reduce authorship by 15% to only show more authoritative authors.
Does that mean you have a low quality site?

That authorship image is a static joke compared to the SERP real estate of a video thumbnail image.

So, you're saying that this gimmick is actually working?
      Very interesting.

Images are still showing for all of my sites. If you put the effort in to make a profile that connects with others instead of just creating an account for the sake of having an image in the serps, you should be fine.

To ensure your Authorship shows in the search results you'll want to get people to add you in their circles, and interactions on your Google+ posts.

Accounts that have no followers, images, videos, posts (basically ghost profiles) are going to be filtered it sounds. Yes, you can do this on fake accounts, but the majority won't put the extra effort in, and the result will be a good blow to all the fake spam G+ authors.

This make sense. All my "fake" profiles have real people in circles, plus I have filled my profile information, so yeah. Google sees it as real.

Mine too. Both fakes are very popular and appear totally real. One even asked Google nicely to remove a link penalty and they did, so Google really loves that guy

I didn't. This probably explains why my G authorship is gone. Plus I used a cartoon image.

A crappy product or service by people that disappear from the forum for a long period of time to make it look like they were working on something so when they come back you will want to click on their crappy product or service link

I noticed a tiny change recently, but nothing major. I think it's the algorithm itself taking its time to recalculate everyone's profile.

I have noticed it myself and I would really like an explanation for it. It is really taking a long time to reappear.

You suggest using fakes or pseudonyms (John Brooks, Johnnie Brooks, Jon Brooks).

Having different themed sites in one profile makes no sense to me if they want to identify use as an authority. Who in the world has only one interest? And most of us own website on different topics.
So, does one have to do the different proxy, clear cache, different browser thing each time if they want separate accts?
