    Monster level link exchanging is what I'll call it.

    If you have a real business, you don't need google.

    If you choose to have a website business, well, you
    get what you deserve when playing the fool.

    That has to be one of the harshest penalties I have ever
    heard about. It's like the clown does not exist. On google,
    that is. Genius!

    They rank #60 for their domain name [rap genius] keyword.

    I don't think Google is their only source of traffic, still dropping in the SERPs like that has to be a kick in the crotch.

    So wheres the proof they were trying to manipulate the SERPS? Seems like a question of intent to me. Were they doing this to boost rankings, or legitimately trying to draw direct traffic from those pages? Funny thing is, the article referenced an email that supposedly catches them in the act, but it doesn't prove anything other than bad granmar on behalf of rap genius.

      The email, if true, shows that they are offering traffic for backlinks. Did you see the link text they wanted the Webmasters to use? Those are anchor text links with optimized anchor text to specific pages.
