While browsing I came across an product site that offers an affiliate program. They had a few articles that they said you can take from their site and post on your own if you are an affiliater of their product. However, they claimed that you could only take and reprint the article if you do not alter it.

If you play by their rules wouldnt you and 40 other people get penalized the crap out of by google for duplicate content?

    Do not copy the article: rewrite it or re-purpose.

    Or use it to create a video, an audio, a power point presentation, a PDF.

    Then submit the new content on social media sites.

      Not really . . . there is duplicate content all over the Internet. I'm not saying that you should just copy and paste something since the original site carrying the unique content will most likely be the only one that derives benefit from that content (from a ranking POV).

      To say that Google is "not gonna like this" is not really the point . . . if the Google bots detect the duplicate content, they will just not pay any attention to it and it's not going to do you any good.

      You've just advocated that someone commit a criminal and civilly negligent act, in violation of international copyright laws, especially since you are trying to make a profit off the material.

      I guess you don't mind me copying your sites and using them around the internet? Because that's what you told him to do.

    The internet marketing world does not live and die by Google - if that's your only traffic method then you should have bigger worries than one article getting slightly less weight in the eyes of a computer algorithm.

    More pressingly you would be committing an actual crime by taking their work and modifying against the author's wishes. Even if you think it would help get sales it doesn't matter; robbing a bank would make you a lot of money too but unfortunately you can't just claim the bank was stupid for letting someone come in and rob them.

      eh I was just going to use it as normal and take points here and there and re-write it with other sources too. I was just wondering why they would advocate something that will get you penalized, unless I was missing something.

      There is nothing wrong with taking it just the way it is if you direct targeted traffic to the article. You can use it in an email, or a report, or a video also.

      Google is out to destroy direct marketers... and are clinging to brands instead, so I don't pay any attention to Google. I'm done trying to rank sites and do SEO. I have made more money using direct targeting and driving traffic from other sources with much better results.

      In other words.... Screw Google! :-)

        And, Google is not the only way to get traffic to a site.

        According to JCPenny who was penalized in Google a few years back for supposedly buying backlinks. When confronted, they denied the action and said it didn't matter anyway as only a small percentage of their retail traffic was derived from Google searches anyway. And, the other traffic came from social media and joint ventures. Google is good but it's not everything.

    It's not a penalty, it's a filter, so they will just get filtered out of the search engine results which makes using dupe content for ranking almost useless, If however you can make your page that has the dupe content on it a more powerful page (more authority, links, social, etc.) IMO you could outrank the creator of the content but of course they could just ask that you stop using it to get rid of you and the law would be on their side as well lol.

    If its a good pre sale copy then use it. An no, you won't get penalized for it, but if you're really worried about it just noindex the page and nofollow the links pointing to it.
