Ok, I've heard all this, might be nonsense about the title being less that 63 charachters.

I acted on this information and took the blog title off the end of all of my posts.

I'm planning on changing it back and see does it make a difference, more testing lets call it.

I guess it will mess up my rankings for a little while.. while it starts to change in the SERPS again.

What's your thoughts, a good idea to have blog title after the posts or not..

If there's no answers for this I guess it's down to me to test it.

Cheers.

      Interesting thread, actually.

I did some experimenting. I tried to find sites that
had titles longer than 64 characters, and copied the whole
title then put this in quotes, did a google search, and the site came
up #1. So, I am assuming google read the whole title, but yes,
they only display the first. I did a search for
"Car body care tips: how to wash your car, polish and wax car exterior, how to remove scratches and more"
Only one site had this whole thing in the title, so obviously come up
#1. There are actually plenty of other sites that have the same
      first few words.

You could do a little experiment yourself. Make a site with a title
way over 64 characters that would be unique. Get it indexed on
google, then do a search for the whole title and see if it comes up
#1. If it did, I'd say google 'reads' past the first 64.

Now here is something that would be the clincher. Make up a site
with your unique phrase at the end of your title. Of course it would
be way past 64 characters. Then get it indexed on google, do a
search for that exact unique phrase, and see if it comes up #1.
If it does, google must read past 64.

Another thing that gets me to believe that they see past 64 is
that many times when I do a search, the words I am searching
for are not highlighted anywhere. I always wondered why. Now
I think it is because those words are at the tail end of the
title and are not shown, but were certainly 'read.'

Because of that previous statement, I have been reluctant to
click on a site without the keywords searched for highlighted in
the title. So, perhaps it is indeed good advice to put your desired
keywords as close to the front as possible. People may think
      like me and not click.

  • The number of characters indexed in a Title Tag varies by search engine. And Google does in fact read the entire Tag it just does not display a tag longer than the 63 Characters (Or is it 62?) And that count includes spaces. Is there a benefit to having a long Title? Probably less of a benefit than a detriment.

There simply isn't room to display giant tags in the Search Results.

What is important is that your title tags convey the appropriate message to the Reader so they will take an action.

A short descriptive keyword rich readable tag is always in order.

If Wordpress throws in a long title tag because you choose to set up a page that way and your Title for the Article is very long... that's fine. But you should think about those Article Titles as you create them.

Keep in mind there are "rules" and exceptions to rules. The point of the 63 Characters is to make a Title Readable and useful.

I try not to exceed about 40 characters as I am not trying to stuff in every keyword possible.
