no traffic on #2 in google

So, yeah... I don't understand Google and SEO anymore.

I've been #2 in Google.fr (France) for a 6600 monthly searches keyword in the weight loss niche and I got only 1 visitor in 48 hours.

Frankly, I have no clue what is wrong. I checked the ranking of my website like 10-20 times a day in these last 2 days and the website shows up nicely at #2 each time for its main keyword, I also checked analytics and GWT and yet, NOTHING! You'd expect to get at least 20-30 visitors a day (and that's me being stupidly conservative) on a 6600 searches per month keyword, yet, I'm getting nothing!

Does anyone have the slightest clue as to what might be wrong? I feel like I've been cursed or something and I feel like smashing the PC to the wall and quit SEO altogether

            I'm not targeting this niche, and have no desire too, but will run report and send you the information you need FREEBIE... BUT PM your information (ie not recommending you post your keywords in forum....)

            In regards to you seeing it as #2 in google..... funny story.... (maybe will give everyone a laugh ... or reminder...lol) when I first started out, found long tail (3 words) 644k and bought emd .com it was available! (when emd's where golden)

            1st hilarious thing, I forgot to check off exact match

            2nd is after a week I would google the term and see I was #1 .... I'm going to be rich....lol..... new google tracking at the time (I think that was reason) knew I liked the site because I would see it as #1 but no one else would.

            Good News is if you are ranking, like everyone else said, you may just need tweaking

              Yeah, but you probably got traffic. I am getting nothing, and that's what worries me. Even if I got 10-20 visitors a day but not converting that traffic into sales/clicks I'd handle that issue next. But I'm getting no visitors, like there's some conspiracy of some sort to ignore my website completely although it hits you right in the face when you type the main keyword into big G and hit enter.

              Nevermind... I will... I don't know, I guess I'll move on with 2 other websites that I'm working on, and I'll focus on English speaking traffic.

      I know, but still. On page 1 there are very few websites that even have all keywords in their titles.         Is that your opinion or have you decided that from the one click you received in 48 hours? Who, in the niche you're in, has told you that? I'd rather hear that from my customers. Think about it, if it's just your opinion and after 2 days and just one click, it could be people are missing it and don't want to click on, even if they wanted to.

        Yes it must be. Especially when you could have spent a few bucks on Adwords and tested the keyword. Then, after 2 days and 1 little click, you could move on and you'd have spent virtually nothing and saved considerable time.

        I'm sorry but if you are #2 for a keyword with lots of traffic and after 2 days you've had just one click then I'd heavily disagree with the below statement.

        You just can't miss it and not click on it, even if you wanted
        Regarding the question about clearing your cache/cookies. You need to do that because otherwise, if you keep searching for your keyword and you look at your site regularly, Google may be showing you ranked like that (to you only) because Google thinks you like visiting that site.

        You may also try the SEO part of this forum as it's an SEO question. Sadly we don't know your site so when you say you've done all the on page SEO, that you can't miss your site and not click on it and your ranked #2 for a well searched keyword, there isn't much anyone can do for you sadly.

          No money to waste on Adwords. I know (or at least I've heard) that this is the way to test keywords the right way, but I am not rich to waste money left and right.... yet

          As for giving out the keyword, you have no idea how many times I was tempted to post it here but I won't do it,as poorly as it performs it's MY keyword and I don't want others to create fierce competition for me, especially since I'm newbie at ranking websites

    Does your title make people want to click? Does your meta description make people want to click?

    Whatever you do, refrain from smashing your PC against the wall. IME, it's not very helpful.

      Hehe, I was joking about that smash. I'm not the type of guy who does that anyway

      And yes, the domain name, the title, and the description are basically the same (which is just my main keyword, like for example weightlossdiet.org but in french). Obviously that this is not the keyword I own, but just an example for you to understand better

    Even if you are #1 in google, it would not make any sense if no one knows that keyword except you. My site is not ranked in any top pages of google but I am getting more than 500 google traffic everyday. Why? because I have popular keywords and people are actually looking for these keywords even if my site is buried on second to thirds pages of google.

      When you find keywords in the weight loss niche that have 6600 searches, do you think those keywords are known? I would say yes.

    People always go to forums to look for answers, doesn't matter if your site sticks out like a sore thumb. You really need to test different titles to see what gets people to click to your site over the forum. Could be an easy fix.

      I thought about this too and yesterday I changed the title I just have to wait now for the change to appear in Google. If that doesn't increase my traffic either, I think I will abandon the project altogether. It's true that I didn't stress about it too much (just bought 3 SEO gigs on Fiverr), but when you see your website having so many searches and in such a competitive niche popping up at #2 whereas a day earlier it was not even in Google, you just don't feel like letting it go.

      Oh well, that's how you learn...

    Like Alex was saying ... it's certainly not exact match. Otherwise you would be seeing more traffic. Even with a 6k per month exact match keyword in position 2 you are still only looking at about 100 visitors a day on a good day in the US so don't beat yourself up. Focus on MORE keywords rather than just optimizing one.

      I will focus on more keywords (in fact, I just added a new page to the website targeting a new high volume keyword), and still nothing so far. If I see any movement in the next few days I will add even more pages but for now I am pretty let down by this. This is the best keyword - or so it seemed - I have ranked for so highly in Google in my life and seeing me dominate that page and getting no traffic is frustrating.

      Also, and if you don't mind me asking, how do I find out if that keyword is exact match or broad? There is no way you can find this with the new keyword planner

    In Google Keyword Planner there many options that shows your keyword ranking but you should have to look only local searches and broad searches and always choose that keyword which have huge local searches.Local searches shows the keyword search by US traffic. OR if you need more guidance then feel free to PM me and i will give you my skype id.

      You probably meant "local searches and exact searches (not broad)". But I did look at local searches indeed and it says.... 6600 local searches for google.fr (yep, I did choose google.fr as location in GKP), and global searches it's 8100. So....

      As for the broad/exact I have no idea how to verify which type of searches these are. I asked 3 times already in this thread for instructions on how to find this out, but I've still to hear an answer

      Yes, there is... and it just happened. And it continues to happen right now.

      I just checked my analytics again and I have 13 unique visitors, 36 visits and 46 pageviews at the time of writing this, out of which 19 visits are from google indeed, BUT, these visits were also showing up before my website got to fist page. So, in the last 3-4 days when my website catapulted from nowhere to #2 and has been locked on that spot I only received 2 uniques (one from Canada, one from France). This is driving me crazy...

    Question: How did you determine you were ranked #2?

    Reason: If you are searching from your normal browser, your previous searche results and specifically pages you have visited, e.g. your own page, can show up on the first page of "your" google searches simply because you've visited it frequently.

    Possible Solution: If in Chrome Browser pull up an incognito window from top right corner options menu, (It's the three little lines stacked on top of each other in the top right corner of your Chrome browser) and do the search through that. It will not be skewed by your previous visits. If you do not use the Chrome browser, you will have to determine or ask around for a similar option.

    Point: You may find you do not actually show up as #2 on the first page... Hopefully this is not the case.

      to your question: I type google.fr into my browser and then type the keyword into google and click on "Search" (or hit Enter)

      to your reason: I just cleared cookies, cache, active logins, and browsing and download history, closed my browser (I use Firefox btw), then refreshed my desktop and opened up a new browser, repeated the steps mentioned above and... I am still at #2 (long live high PR Fiverr gigs LOL) for the exact keyword, only that this time my website is also updated with the new title (I told someone on this thread yesterday that I changed the title to see if it attracts more clicks and that I'm waiting for Google to update the change, and they did). So, I guess I'll give it 2-3 more days to see an increase in traffic, although I only added one little word to the title, nothing drastic

      to your solution: I don't use Chrome

    Sorry to hear this. But I have had this thing happen to me too. I had a site on Google page 1 for 7200 global monthly searches, in the # 3 spot – but I hardly got 5 to 10 hits per day.

      I would bet you are seeing personalized results in Google. Just clearing your cookies is not enough. You also need to make sure you are signed out of any and all Google properties, Gmail, YouTube, Google+, etc. Even then you should use an Incognito browser window as was suggested or in Firefox select a 'New Private Window'. That way you are viewing results that are not skewed by past browser history.

      You are not actually ranked #2. You are just seeing personalized results.

        Well, that's interesting... I just used "New Private Window" and I see my website on page 3. I then checked again in normal browser (while being signed out of everything, cookies, cache, etc all cleared) and I show at #2.

        So, this means that problem is SOLVED... at last!

        If you are using FireFox than please read this page below (from MozillaFireFox) and do your search using the Private Browsing function. I don't wish to be correct in this matter, however I still do not see enough evidence that your viewing is not the issue.

        The other option is to have someone you trust do an identical search from another location. Ultimately using the private browsing option should give a definitive answer.

      There's nothing wrong with that. If you are #3, you are probably only going to get about 5% of the traffic or less. You were doing pretty good.

    It doesnt really matter where you are in Google France, UK, Spain or anywhere else grab number 1 for Google US ! And I`m number 1 for google UK for a pretty strong keyword but the traffic is crap !

      Well, that's even more bad news, cause I was hoping to get away from the fierce US competition in all profitable niches, and now you're advising me to get back. Me, a little, confused fish swimming in shark infested waters. That doesn't sound too merry

        Not really advising you to do anything I`m just saying that after years of holding number 1 spots in google UK I know from experiance it means nothing the traffic is all google US, I belive some folks are starting to make a killing in foreign markets but their targeting the huge keywords 25k+ not 6k or less

    I just used MikeFriendman's tip (checking my rankings in a New Private Window) and I can clearly see my website at # 24 (page 3)
