If I were a reader, I would hate adsense ads in the middle of article body
because they keep me from reading it with attention but don't know how would they be if they locate on left or right column of the body.

It's just an example for describing them, can they be a source to get passive income?

can they be a source to get passive income?
Sure, but there are much more profitable, less restrictive ways to make passive income.

The second most popular is affiliate marketing. It's a little tougher, but commissions are higher than advertising percentages.

Next, you can sell advertising yourself by adding an ad server to your site.

Next, you can sell a small service with a monthly subscription. The more automatic the better.

        There, 3 ideas to explore.

Sure it can! Just check what Pat Flynn is doing with his security guard training website. He has only one adsense ad in the middle of the site!
The income will not be passive without a good SEO though...

First you need a specific niche content. Then you need SEO to bring in the traffic by
    improving you page rank.

Post your articles (content rich) every 2 weeks and ensure your ads are used effectively on all your articles.

Use Google Analytics to monitor from where your traffic is coming from and appeal to your top referrer to include more links to your website. You will be surprise some of them can be very supportive. Your Ads placement, Ads size are also very important to monetize your blog or website.

Ads in the middle of the article is the best place to ensure your readers view your adsense, it may appeal them to access the ads if the information appeals them (since it is right in front of their eyes)

    Hi wass11,
thanks for posting your question as it is asked by many people just like you.

Well, the answer to your question that whether ads should be placed in between the article is NO.

The best places to place Adsense ads are at the start of the article or at the end of the article. Sidebars are always good for ads as big blogs are using them at those places.

Definitely, even though i make just a few hundred euros every month. I wish I could join the club of those who make thousands from adsense.

I stopped blogging a few years ago and my blog STILL generates Adsense income. Not enough to live off of, but it's something. I was also in a very low-value niche where most ad clicks only generate a few cents. Some niches can generate $20 or more per click.

The key with Adsense is not to rely on it too much. Have other revenue streams as well, preferably ones you have more control over. Google is notorious for shutting down people's Adsense accounts for no reason.

I think the keyword to answering your question is the word 'passive'.

While I am sure there are many people still earning a great deal of revenue from adsense, I would have to say that to keep or maintain that level would require a continued effort rather than set it and forget type of action.

I began with adsense when they first started up (2003 I believe) and had some great months and years but never once did I consider it to be my primary revenue generator.

The most I ever earned in one day was in the $90 range and had many nice months of $1000-$1500 and a performance report I just ran for 'all time' earnings shows I am just shy of $102K in earnings for this period. However, the heyday of earnings are now a distant past and with all the changes within G's algorithm my January 2014 earnings will probably be less than $100 for the entire month.

I just do not believe that you should place much of your income dependence on earning a 'steady' passive income from it.

It can be for sure, BUT, don't forget 1 thing, adsense has been banning people left and right (usually without any explanation why) for the silliest reasons (or any reason?), i would probably not put all eggs in the same basket and bet everything on adsense..

You can get passive income from adsence you must work on a plan and work on it. You can create many website or few authority websites with high CPC. Put content on them , socialize etc.

It can be, but the problem is you are relying on Google/search engine too much for that income. One algorithm change or a "bad luck", your wallet becomes empty overnight

Internet marketing is funny that way.

Yeah, sure. I got a whopping $50 of passive income for a video I made couple of years ago. That's truly passive income, but doesn't really support anyone. There's good advice in this thread.

I see adsense like a investment.

I tried creating 2 unique website with decent traffic search and normal competition, 1 got #1 on google.. the other one #4 for their keywords. They earn me about 15-20€ a month together. so this is far from "passive income" in my eyes.

Why i see it as investment?
Because you can succeed in Adsense 2 ways.
    1. Invest A LOT of your time and create loads of websites and unique selfwritten quality content, then invest even more time in SEO and manual quality linkbuilding. This is a investment of your time!

    2. Pay people for loads of unique written content, pay people for quality beautiful vistor-friendly layout websites, pay other people for quality offpage SEO.

Eighter way you can push it to a point where you can earn passive income, it relies on yourself how far you will push it and how far you will succeed. However, it might even take +500 sites to earn a decent income trough adsense..

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they aren't effective.

I make $5-6k a year on sites I built out YEARS ago (5+ years) and haven't done any SEO or touched them in forever.

I'd say that's about as passive as you can get.

Might not be a great answer, as newspapers are going the way of the
dinosaur. But do you remember reading newspapers? Every front page
article is cut off in the middle...turn to page 4C....to read the rest....

People put ads where they are effective. Has nothing to do about getting
in the way of an article. That's like saying I won't watch Duck Dynasty
because in 8 minutes, dang it, they will run a commercial. How dare they
run a commercial and interfere with my watching of the show! Unless you
do the DVR thing, much easier to skip over an internet ad than a tv
commerical. Ever been to forbes? You see an ad before ever even getting to
      the friggin article...

Sometimes I think you people get in the way of yourselves making money.
