What is (not provided)?

In Google Analytics Acquisition>Keywords>Organic I see

1 (not provided) -------- 715
2 keyword1 --------------111
3 keyword2 --------------103
.
.
.

My question is what is (not provided) actually? I am pretty sure my traffic are coming from search engines only. A prove is when my site was on 6th position for my main keyword I was getting 15 to 20 visitors a day. But when the site became 3rd on Google SERP now its getting 60+ traffic everyday. I mean traffic is increasing with rank improvements. So visitors are coming mainly from search engines. But why analytics showing (not provided) as keyword?

My another question is according to Google Keyword Research Tool I see exact mach search volume for my main keyword is 40500. My site is now on 3rd position. I am getting only 1100 traffic last 20 days. So for 3rd position I think its very low amount. What is the problem actually? I added google analytics tracking code only to the site. Not to each page separately. So should I add tracking code to separate webpages to see the real number of traffic?

    I can tell you've been outside the SEO game. Can't remember the exact date but Google started making searches more "secure" and blanking them out altogether. If you're seeing keyword data then its from other search engines such as Yahoo and bing.

    It means you must rank really well for "Not Provided". Try diversify a little.....Go Social..or maybe start providing whatever it is...

      I didnt know "Not provided" became so much popular keyword nowadays. What about "Click here", "Have a look", "See this", "Read more" etc.? I think our anchor text penalty panic marketers making those traffic worthy too.:p
