How Does this Site Rank

How do sites like this: hxxp://makebabyhealthy.com rank for their homepage primary keyword? I guess this applies to all ecommerce/blog feed sites. But in particular the one above.

I have only ever made static niche sites, where I type the content to rank for the primary keyword.

How does the site above rank for its primary homepage keyword when it is just a mass of pictures and no content?

    I uickly run this site in Traffic Travis and the site you mentioned does not rank for the kw: Make Baby Healthy. It also doesn't have backlinks yet. And if you search on Google, the link is not indexed yet.

    I am not sure of the traffic stats this site gets but as far as I know sites like these, which do not have backlinks or page rank and also have bad on-page SEO, don't get indexed.

      Ah this was my fault. I forgot, I know this site doesnt rank because it was just some generic crap selling on flippa.

      What I meant to ask was how do site "like" the one above rank? I am only confused because I have always made static homepages.

      How can you do on page SEO for the primary keyword on the homepage when there is no written content? Like the example site.

      How would you even target the keyword "make baby healthy" if you wanted to?

      I wanted to try that site structure for my next amazon site because I have never done it before. However, I dont understand the concepts of on-page seo for the homepage of that kind of site where content doesnt exist.

        If you would have asked this question 2 years back, there would have been many who would have given you analysis theory. There were many tools that would have helped. But today, you can't think as social signals are major factors here. So you can calculate number of backlinks etc, but how will you calculate social signals?

        A page doesn't need much text to be associated with a keyword. Plus, inbound links from pages that are associated with the keyword can be used to help rank a page.

        That domain in OP has crappy on-page SEO but it's still loaded up with text. Use this plugin & you'll see all the text on the page without the fluff (images, javascript, etc...).

    Agreed, the site doesn't even show up in Google or Yahoo search for it's EMD keyword.

    your site doesn't showed up in Google and Yahoo but you are on 7th in Bing results but you can't expect bulk of traffic from it !

    A lot can be done in terms of ranking for this kind of site. Like Yukon said, you can still rank for the keywords used in your images. Aside from that, you can still do on page SEO by filling in your meta tags with relevant and target keywords for your site.
