Article Syndication and rel=canonical

Hey everyone,

I have a question about rel=canonical.

I have agreed to let a fairly large online news publication syndicate some of my articles- however i noticed that the syndicated articles are actually ranking ABOVE my original articles in the SERPs!

I was a little surprised to find this out.

Anyhow, Can i remedy this situation by asking that they include a rel=canonical link in the head of these pages?

I have been reading about rel=canonical, but what i have read seems to suggest it is only for solving issues of duplicate content on your own site... is that accurate?

Would using a canonical link in this case be appropriate? or are there some other solutions to this problem that will allow me to regain my search rank?

Thanks!

Peter

You must have missed my post about syndicating the content you have on your own site.

Don't do it or you may get outranked by your syndication partners, as you have just discovered.

The best thing you can do is completely rewrite the articles on your website that you have syndicated, and hope G like them again.

As for your canonicals, set your preferred URL in Webmaster tools, www or non www, telling Google which one to use is important to ensure your link juice is not split between the different versions of your domain.
