Help please.

We've hired companies to assist with SEO and even did it ourselves before that. We got a PR 3 now which is great but we still not on first page for our keywords.

New sites that are just basic html and not even optimizing for the first page shows up on the first page. Which is strange.

Could it be that we using wordpress?

Any help would be appreciated or can someone give me a list of things to look at? I'm currently going through Google's SEO guide.

Nope, live Wordpress pages are HTML pages.

It's possible your on-page SEO is weak but that has nothing to do with Wordpress, that would be a lousy theme, which can be corrected.

Googles SEO guide won't rank a page, it's ok to read but don't expect much in return.

The website is in my signature

I am targeting the keywords - web hosting, reseller hosting, website hosting, wordpress hosting, vps hosting

Built manual links via top ranking sites in South Africa blogs, directories, etc. Hired new staff (2 people) to constantly post on these websites.

I'm starting to think of hiring or subscribing to a company to do it continuously, though would love to figure out how to do this myself.

  • My advise would be to list your site URL so experts here can give specific feedback.

Very professional-looking site. Most hosts are nowhere near that level. You seem to have the obvious on-page stuff like h1s, title tags and meta descriptions. Content on the actual product pages is fairly thin so that might be something you could improve.

Make sure you've done enough to target the local searches. Seems to be fairly tough competition, but hosting is like that everywhere. You do seem to have the obvious on-page stuff covered. There's several new threads about that floating on the forum front page, and some of them had article tips.

Link building has been mentioned in the thread, but that would be my suggestion too. Just not the Fiverr kind.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?
