Can I put adsense in my header and sidebar so the ads show on all my pages/posts, or can I only display adsense on pages with articles?

Most bloggers on Blogspot use Adsense widgets which show in the side bar. If this were not acceptable, then why would Blogger (which is owned by Google who also owns Adsense) allow it to be so? Technically, there are no articles in your side bar, but I've never heard of this actually getting anyone disqualified from Google adsense.

You can put adsense anywhere you want on a blogspot blog, as
well as any blog or site.

When google talks about pages with no content, they are talking about
blank pages with just adsense. Not a normal login, directory, etc.
Content comes in many flavors. It's not just articles.

I will add to that by saying "so long as it doesn't lead to mistaken or fraudulent clicks on ads".

For example, my company recently redesigned a site to make it mobile friendly and during testing we found we had to add additional space between the advertisements and other clickable items because unintentional clicks on ads were happening on small screens.

This space will be awarded to the first WSO owner who can prove they make Million$ from their methods.

Putting ads above the fold, google doesn't like when ads are taking up the majority of the space above the fold, they want content first. I would put a H1 headline at the top with the ad aligned-left with text wrapped around to the right.

Absolutely, if you're talking about a forum then it's a great place for AdSense banners. This is my layout:

    It doesn't matter.

Run your ads for a month or two then drop the low performers, keep the best performers.

The only problem Google Adsense has is when you allow ads to show on any page where there is no or little content.* And, that's because the ads shown reflect the content on the page.* And, if no content on the page, then no ads show and Google doesn't earn money from advertisers.
