I am trying to fix up some things on my our website at Foot Jewelry, Stretch Toe Anklets, Handcrafted Foot jewelry, Toe Ring and was told by a couple SEO people from fiverr that there were a couple things I needed to immediately do before even worrying about getting more backlinks.

1. Put keyword into product names.... which in my case would mean adding "toe anklet" after the names that are already there. My question is this: Since the wordpress theme is defining the product name as an H2 tag would google view this as keyword stuffing since my keyword "toe anklet" would be used at a very high density. Each product is a "toe anklet" so they said because that is what each one is it wouldn't matter. This worries me about getting penalized.

2. Said to put a description on each product. I have almost the same fear here. Since the products are all so close to the same if I try describing all of them I'm worried that google would view it as too much duplicate content.

I have made a change to a few of the items but did not change all of them for fear. I hope I explained this clearly and some of you pro's out there could help answer these questions.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Your theme doesn't actually have the product name as h2 tag, but you have two h1s with the exact same text. You should get rid of the second one.

If the product is a toe anklet, in my opinion you can have toe anklet in the title. As long as the potential customer who comes from Google thinks it's relevant, it should be ok.

I'm sure the text on product pages will be similar, but you really need to have something on the page to rank it. Your content is very thin, and many pages have no real content on them at all. What would Google rank these pages for?

If you search a forum bit you may find threads where people are complaining about Google's penalties for thin content. Even those guys that got penalized had some content. This exact penalty may not apply to you, because you're not running an affiliate marketing site, but this just as a comparison. Better content has been slapped.

He is right. Your page rank is based on the relevancy of your content. There are some simple and cheap ways that you can impact it. One is that you need to have a steady flow of unique content on your site. On Fiverr you can get blog posts done relatively cheap. They should contain 300-500 words with 3-5% of that being Keyword Content. I would also start getting some video going. Another thing you can get done relatively cheap and it optimizes much faster than text. Cheers!

    Hi Ed,

I would not do #1 and #2 because yes may result to keyword stuffing and that may come very unnatural to both Google and your readers (if they happen to notice that every product name and description has this keyword attached to it).

What you need to focus on is to put the keyword within your meta tag, make sure you have your keywords within the H1 tag, and probably mention the target keyword 2x within the page and that's it!

Do not overdue your on page since you will still be doing off page for your target keywords, right.

BTW, the comments above are also right

You've already stuffed the home page <title> (Foot Jewelry, Stretch Toe Anklets, Handcrafted Foot jewelry, Toe Ring), it would be easier to rank by breaking those keywords up into 4 individual internal pages.

Google isn't ranking pages based on meta descriptions. Not having a meta description will show you what on-page text Google is focused on when ranking a page, but the SERP/meta description isn't ranking a page, it just gives you an idea what Google is focused on.

Thanks for the replies here and I can't figure out how to use the multiquote button so I will just try to be specific with my questions to a couple of the posts.

nettiapina - your correct... i said H2 for product names but meant H3... also I am not seeing the two H1 tags that your talking about being exactly the same. What/Where are they?

Yukon - I really respect your posts and knowledge as well but I don't quite understand your comment about breaking the keywords into 4 internal pages. Maybe I do??? Sounds like your saying to create a seperate page for each item in the title instead of having just one main home page. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong and if so please explain. I kind of view the website as a book. It has one cover that shows what's inside the book. That is what I was thinking when I built the page and site I guess. We are selling only one product there with slight variations. The names Toe Anklets, Barefoot Sandals are really one in the same... people just call them different things. Should I really make seperate pages and split the Keywords up for each page? I changed the title so it didn't contain the keyword twice but your second paragraph there I don't understand at all. Maybe it's just too far over my head to understand.:

Simon - thanks for your reply also I do realize I need to finish adding descriptions and never really thought about product pages ranking. I've only looked at it like the book/website would rank... not a page inside it.

Thanks Again for all the help!

You have unique competition for each individual keyword in your Home page <title>:

It would be easier to rank each of those keywords with each having a page focused on the specific keyword instead of ranking one page for 4 different keywords.

Even though ebay is ranking for a few of those keywords, notice how the ranked ebay pages are different URLs each focused on a specific keyword.

The one at the top with the price on the same row, and the one above add to cart button. You know, the two headings that have the exact same text on every product page I've opened. Do a search on page HTML and you can't miss them.

If you're interested in keeping just one of them, the lower heading seems to have the microdata specifications that are potentially beneficial for your Google rankings. So actually it's not a good idea to just get rid of the second title, but perhaps move the code from the second to the first one.

Yukon has good comments above. You can also use the WooCommerce category listings to your benefit, maybe even customize the category pages to show some common description for each type of product you have.

    For the first question,

    1. Do you want to rank against "toe anklet" for all product pages? Obviously not and even if you do, you cannot rank all of these pages as Google does the domain clustering. So this answers your first question that you dont need to add "toe anklet" in all product names, just add in those pages where you want to rank like category pages of homepage.
    2. You need to add description, Yes the product are pretty similar but there is some sort of difference among them, that why you have listed them as products, Just add that distinction in description, It not necessary you write 150 character description, it can be less depending on the requirement.

Ditto what Yukon said ... have your home page focus on foot jewelry, then have categories for the different types of jewelry. You have a categories section in the sidebar with only "Uncategorized" ... which adds nothing for SEO.

Wait, you have categories ... why don't you link to all those in your sidebar:
    hxxp://im2sexy4myfeet.com/product-category/anklets/

Also, I clicked on your Twitter link ... 1) it froze chrome for like 30 seconds, 2) it goes to your (?) twitter account. Create a new twitter account for the site, or don't link to twitter.

Thank you!!! I see exactly what your talking about here... now I have to try to wrap my mind around it to figure out how to get this done. The problem is that I can't see making separate pages because they are the same things but I do see what your talking about. I guess home page should just be foot jewelry then I could have another page for specifically toe anklets or barefoot sandals. I was thinking when building the site that eventually we would add other stuff for the feet as well and that's really when the categories would come into play. I see lots of work needs to be done there to fix that up right away.

Thanks here as well. I didn't realize those were both H1 tags but I think wordpress puts that top one in there automatically itself when I add a product and name it. Do I need to worry about getting penalized for this? Should I perhaps look at using a different theme?
I will also look now more in depth at the WooCommerce category listings... Thanks

DeskCoder, thank you too for jumping in there... like I said to Yukon we don't really have different types as of yet and I thought I had categories saying toe anklets but must have accidentally changed that somehow or something. I will be fixing that and the twitter link pronto... thanks for pointing out.

I really appreciate everyones help and your expert advice.
