Does pointing additional domains to a website help SEO?

To explain: My site is www.premiumhunter.co.uk and it's in a very competitive market.

So I purchased domains such as cheap-life-cover and familylifecover etc

Should I create new sites for these that then link to premium hunter or should I just point the domains to the main site.

Which has the most benefit SEO wise?

I hope this post makes sense, i'm pretty new to this stuff and have picked what appears to be an almighty challenge!

Thanks

Pointing new domains to an existing website does not help as far as I know. Creating new sites may help a bit if you're able to get the new sites rank or the sites that link to your main site have pagerank.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

Well I think fromm the point of view of traffic is could help. Depending on the domains you have purchased they may possibly be receiving traffic which would in turn be directed to your website. From an SEO point of view I don't think it will provide any benefit.

Pointing those domains to your main domain will do nothing for your rankings if they themselves have no backlinks and thus no link equity to pass on.

On the flip side, developing them into separate sites means splitting your efforts which may not be wise given any time and money limits you have.

Honestly, I think you've just got to pick a few long tail terms, optimise your main site for them in terms of title tags, H1s etc and then focus on ranking for those.

      Hi folks,

Thanks for the info. Steve I'll give those long tail terms a go and see how it goes.

I think it would be worth building sites, as I think cheap-life-cover.co.uk will rank pretty well just off of the domain name?

You need to build a site that ranks on it's other merits, such as content and backlinks. Exact Match Domain will not hurt, but it will also not help much.

I doubt the domain will provide much in the way of ranking benefit to be quite honest with you but if it only takes you a little while to do then why not I guess.
