Creating A Brand -Is what Google wants

It appears that Google wants us to create a brand, rather than optimize with anchor text, more preference is being given to sites that are primary focused as a band.

Question I have is that I have a website for 5 years, with twitter, facebook and youtube under keyword - how can I get around this?

I spoke to someone who claimed they knew what they were doing for SEO and they suggested a blog comment run for the Company name and use other generic keywords, such as "click here", but I am certain this would be flagged by Google if 50 links with the same company name appear everyday!

What are your thoughts and how can I promote the company name? Please do not mention quality content - as this is known by everyone

Do not listen to people about generic anchor text. It is not as important as they would have you believe. "click here" is a waste of a good link.

I would not recommend blog comments ever for a real business. If you are participating on a site that might send some real traffic, that is one thing. For links to boost rankings, never. If you create crappy links, they are still crappy links, no matter what anchor text you are using.

If you want more generic and brand related links, business directories are a great place to start.

In the WSO section there are people who really know SEO. There are even guys guaranteeing you page 1. Why don't you check their offers?

Another way around is to learn SEO yourself, and you better start today, and follow everything that is happening on SEO blogs/magazines.

    Good luck!

OP, if you've got a long-running site why not make that a brand? If it's at least somewhat memorable and doesn't violate trademarks it should be brandable.

Dude, you gotta use smileys with dry jokes like this. OP or another poor soul might think that you're being serious, and purchase that snake oil.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

      What's your excuse?

Blog comments are definitely a bad idea, and "click here" always comes off as spam. Its a good idea to mix up your anchor text in back links, but don't just go spamming blog comments as there are much better ways to gain links, and if ever possible on your higher quality links you always want to use keyword rich anchor text, save branded and generic ones for your occasional crappy(or hopefully just medium quality) links.

What are the reasons that you are considering this move to a brand?

Have you seen a drop in rankings and/or traffic recently?

I'm just trying to find out whether you actually need to do anything or if you are just being a little over-cautious because certain people have said you need to build a brand.

Anyway, anchor text isn't the only thing you need for Google to give you recognition as a brand; you need actual search traffic for that brand too in my honest opinion and probably some non-linked citations.

    Hi Dexter,

Keep moving forward with your current unbranded site. Build steady links from high powered sites and be cautious about your anchor text profile. (Feel free to PM me if you need help with this). You haven't mentioned if you're an EMD domain or a PMD domain. But you're going to want different ratios depending on which you are.

Make a sister site targeting the same niche, but use a branded domain. In this SEO game, its always a good idea to hedge your bets and not keep all your eggs in one basket. Use a different SEO strategy and link from different sources.

No matter what you do, eventually Google is going to make you dance. I've had sites that were ranked using completely white hat tactics that dropped down to page 5-6 for no apparent reason. The algorithm is ridiculous right now. And like you've seen, its easy to get negative SEO'd.

Create multiple pages instead, and dominate the entire first page.
