Hi I am doing local seo for a carpet cleaning company in India. I am number 3 presently and number one has got less links less directory submissions but still staying in number 1.

What is it I am lacking? Also google is showing their directory results at first but I am registered there but still not showing in them. I have mre positive reviews than them as well.

Yeah it's impossible to rank any page using "lonks".

You've not provided sufficient explanation of the situation, or the site link so that someone could see it themselves. It could be just about anything.

Maybe they're more relevant for some reason? Maybe their on-page SEO is magical while yours is not? Perhaps they've got a few valuable backlinks that wipe the floor with your lousy directory submissions? Who knows.

I'm not sure if it helps in this case, but please try to put period at the end of your sentences.

The exact word count doesn't matter that much. Depends really on your content and the kind of backlinks you have. I don't get what you mean by "content format" or "permalink with the links".

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

          What's your excuse?

It is too hard to tell without seeing the search and the website.

It could be something you're not doing, it could be something they are doing. It could be links, reviews, citations, content, Google+ Local page, etc. There are just too many factors to guess at without seeing the site itself.

My biggest tip would be to check your quality links vs theirs. Directory links are not quality links.

Yeh, G local has become fairly volatile lately. I use to rank #1 for lots of different keywords, for like 9 months straight. But ever since hummingbird came out the results of G local have been screwed up. There are now sites that outrank me that are small, shitty, ugly ass sites with very few backlinks, very few citations, and very few reviews. I've audited their sites, my site, have compared everything, and it honestly seems like Google is just randomly ranking sites, to confuse and or piss off marketers.

Back in the day I could rank in G local with no problem. These days its nowhere near as predictable as it use to be.

Same here.. months ago I could just focus on writing articles and contents - somehow Google loved my site and always rank me on the first page or so on almost every new article. Those days are gone and lots of crappy content aggregators outrank me by far

Google tends to be someone resistant to quick changes, so be careful you don't rush and end up getting penalized from an unnatural pattern of building links.

Thats what I am trying to keep at. I just don't want to do anything unnatural which will lose my third position as well.

Please check the backlinks of your competitor and do submission on that site where your competitors already submitted links. Do some classifieds and the reason is you are doing local SEO for your client.

How long you are in the same position, if you have more backlinks than your competitor then you'll definitely gain ranking, but it may take a week or more to show any change.
