Question about non .com domains

Does anyone have any input on using non"standard" domain extensions. The extension in question is *.ml. The options are wide open and you can get exact match domains for virtually any keyword cheap. Anyone have any experience ranking sites like this? Whats Google's take on these sites. I believe its a country domain. Thank you.

As far as I know no SE punish non .com's. I've gotten free hosted and subdomains listed high so why not .ml?
Buy one and give it a try

nice, yeah I grabbed a few. I just know sites with .info and such have kind of a bad rep. I don't know if thats on the users side or the search engine side but I didn't want to put a bunch of work into something that was rank challenged from the beginning.

Was also curious about geogragphy, like a .mn extension is for Mongolia, I was kind of thinking the SE's might think that the content wouldn't be as relavent to my target audience (USA) as a more common US based url. Thank you for you input.

I think the .info got a bad rap because when it was released alot of webmasters used it as a spam tool instead of actually building informational websites.
Now that you mention it, it's been a while since I came across a .info site...

After .coms, the .net .org and .info all do well - they're found in many search results, as are the .co.uk extensions.
I can't say I've noticed many of the lesser known ones like .ml.
I'm sure if a site is good it will get found - Google's always harping on about quality sites providing good user experience. it shouldn't be bothered about the url.
I have a .info (James Bond Int Fan Club, no plug intended) we used to have a .com that we didn't like and moved to a .info. We were worried what would happen to our ranking, but after an initial fall from grace we're now on the first page of Google, number one for many search terms.

If you really want a good domain extension, .com,.net and .org are the best but .info is for minor site that does really matter to you.

Thank you, my question wasn't regarding the best domain extensions, I believe everyone knows those. I was curious about anyone having any experience ranking the odd ball extensions and extensions from foreign country's for a US audience.
