Using Keywords In Domain Name

Hi Guys

I sell a beauty product that is highly sought after but I haven't yet sold it online. I've been doing some research on keywords and found a phrase that has a high number of searches every month. I also looked to see if the domain is available and it is. I've read that there is an advantage to having keywords in your domain but I'm trying to understand exactly how this works. Does that mean that I won't have to spend money or a huge amount of money on driving traffic to my landing page? Does this mean that it will automatically rank higher in google? Will google have an issue with this? (I've read that google keep changing the goal posts!)

I would appreciate hearing from you guys that are experts in this area.

That's called "Exact Match Domain" or EMD, and there's discussion on this forum. Just use the search.

Short answer: EMD used to be one of the SEO gimmicks, but Google changed the algorithms to make EMDs less powerful. It wont hurt you, but might not help much either. EMD alone wont rank your site, you've got to have content to back it up.

I might pursue an EMD if it's short and simple like "divorce-help.com" or "wordpress-pages.com". (The latter is just an example, it actually violates their trademark policy.) Longer EMDs feel a bit spammy to me, and I guess most of us have seen scammy sites with those kind of addresses.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.
Who told me this? An ex Google web spam engineer.

    What's your excuse?

You mention that it has high searcher monthly. This may help you with your customers and give your product credibility. Is the domain that is available a DOT.com?
