Just created a sub-domain, it is a separate site?

In short I was using Wordpress and SEO by Yoast on my main website (example.com). Now that I created sub.example.com, can I use a difference SEO method i.e. maybe a different SEO plugin for the subdomain or would this conflict with the main website?

    Google will see it as a separate site, so you can have a different setup on it without penalty.
